Boericke: "The keynote symptom is, erratic pains, alternating sides." Kent lo generaliza de forma absoluta: "The complaints, almost regardless of kind or quality, change sides."
Es un medicamento antiguo hecho nuevo. Clarke lo remonta a la Antigüedad — "Dioscorides, Rhasis, Pliny, and Sextus recommended it" — y registra que "the remedy was revived by Reisig, of New York, who used it successfully in the treatment of diphtheria", tras lo cual Bayard y Swan lo establecieron; los provings, publicados por Swan y Berridge, "were made with the 30th and upwards." All the milks should be potentized, they are our most excellent remedies."
Kent lo clasifica entre los remedios profundos: "It is deep and long acting; the provers felt its symptoms for years after the proving was made."
Kent: "An oversensitive state prevails, a general hyperesthesia of the skin and all parts." Su expresión más famosa es la intolerancia al contacto consigo misma — Boger: "Oversensitive; can't have parts, fingers, etc., touch each other"; Clarke: "Cannot bear one part of her body to touch another; must even keep her fingers apart." Kent lo vio clínicamente: "a woman lay in bed for days with the fingers abducted and would go wild if they touched each other."
Boger: "Full of imaginations; horrid, of snakes, vermin, as if floating, etc." Sin embargo, la paciente lo oculta todo — Kent: "Although the patient has all these strange feelings, yet she goes around all day about her business, and no one knows them unless she confesses them."
Cuadro mental y emocional
Angustiante falta de autoestima. Boericke: "Thinks himself of little consequence." Los experimentadores de Clarke van más lejos: "Thinks she is looked down upon by every one, and feels insulted thereat", y una "woke at daylight, feeling that she was a loathsome, horrible, mass of disease."
Todo lo que dice le parece falso. Kent: "She is impressed with the idea that all she says is not so, thinks everything she says is a lie"; Clarke añade "that all her symptoms are unreal, and the result of a diseased imagination."
Visiones y sueños con serpientes. Boericke enumera "Visions of snakes" y "dreams of snakes." La experimentadora de Clarke "imagined she was surrounded by them; was afraid to close her eyes at night for fear of being bitten by a large snake which she imagined was beside the bed."
Cada síntoma, una enfermedad establecida. Boger: "Every symptom seems a settled disease." La lista de temores de Clarke es específica: "of disease; of consumption; of heart disease; of falling downstairs."
Flotación. Boericke: "Feels as if walking on air, or of not touching the bed when lying down." Kent lo afina: un vértigo "unusually refined; not the vulgar swaying or tossing... as if she were swimming or floating in the air, spirit-like."
No soporta estar sola. Clarke: "Cannot bear to be left alone for an instant"; Kent lo confirma y lo contrasta con Lachesis, cuya paciente "wants to be alone to indulge the strange fancies."
Abatimiento con irritabilidad. Boericke: "Despondent; thinks her disease incurable. Attacks of rage." Kent: "Chronic sadness, everything so dark; irritable, ugly, hateful."
Kent: "The rheumatism is first found in one ankle and then in the other, and then back again to the original site." Cefaleas, neuralgias, erisipelas, dolores ováricos y gargantas la obedecen todas. Los provings de Clarke lo convirtieron en doctrina — "an alternation of sides, often very rapid" — y su caso curado de eccema palpebral giró en torno a una observación casual de que "it often left one side entirely and went to the other and then back again."
Garganta
Boericke: "Tonsillitis and diphtheria symptoms change repeatedly from side to side. Shining glazed appearance of deposit, pearly-white or like pure white porcelain." Boger: "THROAT SORE, has glistening patches of china whiteness; or red glistening." La versión de Kent: "a felt-like exudation, ashy gray or silvery shiny deposit"; "The diphtheritic membrane is also white like silver."
Los concomitantes son precisos: "Painful swallowing; pain extends to ears"; garganta "sensitive to touch" externamente; peor al tragar en vacío, "ameliorated by cold or warm drinks" (Kent). Y la modalidad temporal clave — Boericke: "Sore throat beginning and ending with menses"; Clarke: "these sore throats are very apt to begin and end with the menses."
El registro de la difteria recorre todas las fuentes: Clarke — "It is in diphtheria, both as curative and prophylactic that Lac can. has won its greatest fame"; Kent — "it has also cured paralysis following diphtheria"; Boger — "Diphtheria; paralysis after."
Esfera femenina
"Menses too early, profuse, flow in gushes" (Boericke). "Breasts swollen; painful before... and better on appearance of menses. Mastitis; worse, least jar." Los síntomas de la leche son una especialidad: "Galactorrhœa", y el "decided effect in drying up milk in women who cannot nurse the baby." Boger lo pone en mayúsculas — "DRIES UP THE MILK. Scanty milk" — y Kent da a la indicación su contexto humano: "When a mother has lost her infant and it is necessary to dry up the milk, Lac. c. and Puls. are the best remedies for this purpose, when no symptoms are present. They will do it speedily."
Los ovarios siguen la ley general: Kent registra "severe pain in the region of the right ovary, ameliorated by the flow of bright red blood", con los dolores tomando lados alternos.
Cabeza y sentidos
"Pain first one side, then the other" (Boericke), a menudo "perfectly unbearable" (Kent). Dos sensaciones cerebrales extrañas: "Sensation as if brain were alternately contracted and relaxed", y el vértigo flotante. La audición hace trampas — Clarke: "Reverberation of voice as if speaking in a large, empty room"; "Sounds seems very far off." Kent añade la visión inquietante: "She sees faces before her in the dark."
Nariz
El coriza obedece la alternancia: "one nostril stuffed up, the other free; alternate" (Boericke). El registro más profundo es la ocena — el caso curado de Clarke tenía "bloody pus discharged" y "bones of nose sore to pressure", con "alæ nasi and corners of mouth cracked."
Extremidades
"Sciatica, right side. Legs feel numb and stiff, cramps in feet. Rheumatic pains in extremities and back, from one side to the other. Pain in arms to fingers. Burning in palms and soles" (Boericke).
- Durante la menstruación — y la garganta "< at start and close of menses" (Boger)
- Después de dormir y movimiento (Clarke: "Rest and lying down > most symptoms; motion <")
- El reloj alternante — Boericke: "Worse, morning of one day and in the evening of next"
Mejor por:
- Aire libre (Boger)
- Thinks himself of little consequence; cada síntoma parece una enfermedad establecida
Lac caninum vs. Lachesis. Clarke: "Lachesis is the nearest analogue" — garganta y ovarios, intolerancia al tacto, incluso la sensación de flotar, que Kent señala que "belongs to Lach." también. Pero Lachesis se desplaza una vez, "left to right", y empeora después de dormir; Lac caninum oscila, de derecha a izquierda y de vuelta otra vez. Para los dedos que no soportan tocarse entre sí, Kent dice que el estado es "difficult to cure outside of Lac can. and Lach."
Lac caninum vs. Pulsatilla. Boger relaciona ambos, y ambos deambulan.
Lac caninum vs. Sepia.
Lac caninum vs. Lycopodium. El caso didáctico de Kent: una garganta que "commenced on the right and went to the left" sugería Lycopodium, "and Lyc. failed, but when it returned to the right the alternation was noticed and the remedy revealed."
