Boericke 的精神关键症状只有四个词，却定义了这一药物一个半世纪："Indifferent to those loved best." 其下方的身体图像同样具体。Sepia “acts specially on the portal system, with venous congestion. Stasis and thereby ptosis of viscera and weariness and misery.” 一切都在下垂 — 内脏、盆底、情绪、姿态。

Sepia 的体质类型
Boericke 的身体素描以静脉淤滞及其后果为中心：“weakness, yellow complexion, bearing-down sensation, especially in women, upon whose organism it has most pronounced effect.” 他又加上一条色素提示 — "Sepia acts best on brunettes" — 以及一条温度提示：即使在温暖房间里也 "feels cold"。
Boger 的描述更直接：“draggy, relaxed females” — 尿酸体质、充血体质 — 容易发生脱垂或轻易脱臼。结缔组织支撑不住。脱垂、内脏下垂、易脱臼、静脉曲张和痔疮，都属于同一种松弛。
面部带有一个值得通过观察来学习的标志。Boericke：“yellowish saddle across nose”，伴有“yellow blotches; pale or sallow; yellow about mouth”，以及呈“saddle-like brownish distribution on nose and cheeks”的酒渣鼻。Boger 的版本是 — “NOSE; BROWN STRIPE ACROSS” — 加上“chloasma”和“dark circles under eyes”。

悲伤与易怒。 Boericke：“Irritable; easily offended. Very sad. Weeps when telling symptoms... Anxious toward evening; indolent.” Boger 描述为“sad irritability, alternating with indifference or sulkiness”，以及“anxious fear; over trifles”，并“sad over her health and domestic affairs”。
记忆差与精神疲惫。 Boger 列有“poor memory”和“stupid, wants to go away”。只想离开 — 离开家庭、义务、整个安排 — 是一个可识别的 Sepia 音符。
身体亲和

直肠。 “Constipation; large, hard stools; feeling of a ball in rectum, cannot strain; with great tenesmus and pains shooting upward.” Boger 的 “as of a ball in anus” 和“rectum constricted and powerless; no urging for days”描述的是同一件事。还有“almost constant oozing from anus”，以及一种婴儿腹泻，“worse from boiled milk”。
肝脏与门静脉系统。 “Liver sore and painful; relieved by lying on right side” — 一个小而精确的 modality。腹部许多褐斑；胀气伴头痛。
球感或块感。 Boericke：“‘Ball’ sensation in inner parts.” Boger：“AS OF A LUMP or a rolling over internally”。它出现在直肠、咽喉、胃和子宫；在头部，Boericke 给出“vertigo, with sensation of something rolling round in head”。
泌尿。 “Red, adhesive, sand in urine” — Boger 的“THICK, FOUL URINE; ADHERENT, RED, SANDY SEDIMENT.” “during first sleep”的遗尿具有特征性。
皮肤。 环状疱疹、癣样皮疹“every spring”、黄褐斑，以及瘙痒“not relieved by scratching; worse in bends of elbows and knees”。足汗伴有“intolerable odor”。
背部与四肢。 “Weakness in small of back. Pains extend into back.” 肩胛间发冷。Boger 的腰痛是“paralytic — wants it pressed”。腿脚发冷；四肢日夜不宁、抽动和颤跳。

- 压迫；屈曲四肢

Lippe 的表述值得与 Boericke 一起阅读，因为它抓住了节律：“the symptoms are relieved from violent exertions, but reappear most violently when sitting quietly in the forenoon and evenings.” 缓解是真实的，但不会在运动停止后持续太久。

临床应用
更年期与月经主诉。 Boericke 提到“hot flashes at menopause with weakness and perspiration”，同时有月经不规则、脱垂和下坠感。当冷淡和运动 modality 同时存在时，这是该领域的一线药物。
子宫脱垂与盆腔松弛。 拖拽、像要掉出来的感觉，伴有代偿性地交叉双腿。
产后耗竭与抑郁。 被压垮的状态，厌恶家庭和工作，怕冷，盆腔拖坠性虚弱，并在叙述症状时哭泣。
晨吐和妊娠期主诉。 闻到或看到食物即恶心，早晨进食前加重。
慢性便秘。 直肠球感，数日无便意，直肠无力，疼痛向上射行。
慢性头痛。 Boericke 给出“小脑部搏动性头痛”和“月经发动时伴量少的 terrible shocks 样头痛”，室内和卧于患侧加重。
癣与慢性皮疹。 环状疱疹季节性复发，瘙痒抓挠不缓解。
牛奶所致消化主诉。 腹泻和消化不良尤其因煮沸牛奶而加重。
鉴别诊断
Sepia vs. Pulsatilla. 这是基本配对，Boericke 将二者列为 inimical。二者主要都是女性药物，并伴有爱哭。Pulsatilla 温和、顺从，并且明显因陪伴和安慰而好转；Sepia 叙述症状时哭泣，但因同情而加重。Pulsatilla 体热、不渴、渴求户外空气；Sepia 即使在温暖房间里也怕冷，并因温暖和剧烈运动而好转。
Sepia vs. Natrum muriaticum. 在 Boericke 的列表中二者互补，也确实接近：二者都怕冷、内敛、因安慰加重，并易有无声的悲伤。Natrum muriaticum 渴望盐，退避到独处时哭泣，并有从日出到日落的头痛。Sepia 渴望醋和腌菜，有盆腔下坠图像，并且因用力活动而好转，而 Natrum muriaticum 并不如此。
Sepia vs. Silicea. 二者都怕冷且虚耗。Silicea 顺从、怯弱、易化脓，有难闻足汗和缺乏韧性；Sepia 易怒、冷淡、淤滞，并有盆腔拖坠。Silicea 想被包裹起来；Sepia 想动起来。
Sepia vs. Lilium tigrinum. 二者都有下坠感，并需要托住该部位。Lilium tigrinum 急迫、不宁、被驱赶般，性欲与道德约束之间冲突显著；Sepia 则是变得平板而冷淡。
Sepia vs. Murex. Boericke 将二者交叉参照。Murex 也有下坠感和球感，但性欲明显增强；而 Sepia 的性欲通常减退或厌恶。
