MIND

  • Sensation of fulness and heaviness of the head, with disinclination for mental or physical work, at 12 noon; fulness and heaviness increased until 2 P.M., when it developed into a severe throbbing headache; worse on the left side, but chiefly in the left eye and occipital region markedly aggravated by going upstairs, which causes an intense throbbing pain in the eyeball; headache relieved at 4 P.M. (second day); fulness and heaviness of the head, followed by throbbing pains in the eye and occiput (left), but not as marked as before (third day), 10.
  • Heavy (fulness) dull pressing pain in the head, as if full of blood (after nine hours), 4a.

  • Temples.

  • Sharp and severe pain in right temple, running to back of head (after twenty minutes); soon after it appeared in left temple, extending to suboccipital region; these pains lasted but a short time (first day). Same pains as yesterday, but more severe in left temple; lasted about an hour (after fifteen minutes, second day). Pain in left temple, sharp and neuralgic in character, disappearing in left and going to right temple; it alternated between the two temples, and was more severe than on the two preceding days (after five minutes, third day), 11.

  • Pain in right lower occipital region, at 8 P.M., lasting about an hour, and at the same time a sensation as of a band passing along the right parietal eminence (fourth day), 18b.
  • At 9.15 A.M. dull pain in right lower occipital region, which comes and goes at short intervals (fifth day), 18b.
  • At 1 P.M. pain in lower right occipital region, coming on at intervals since 11 A.M. (eighth day), 18b.

  • Dull heavy throbbing and burning pains, commencing in occiput and extending forward to supraorbital foramen, and thence down into the eyes, which throb and feel sore to the touch (after ten hours), 4a.

  • At 6 P.M. pain in lower right occipital region, as though right side of cerebellum was loose; keeps throbbing; worse on walking; better while sitting quiet; passes off in about an hour (fourth day), 18a.

EYE

  • Bright yellow color of the sclerotic, skin, and urine (second morning), 1.
  • Eyes to-day markedly yellow, being stained by the acid (seventh day), 18b.
  • Yesterday I observed a slight dryness of my eyes, and a slight tingling or smarting, worse by constant use and lamplight. This morning there was some thick acrid matter in the corners of my eyes, worse by constant use and lamplight (ninth day); eyes smart and are dry, same acrid mucus in corners (tenth day), 17.
  • On waking, and for an hour afterwards, eyes felt as though there were sticks in them; inflammation of eyes has partly subsided (eighteenth day); felt all the evening as though there were sticks in them (twentieth day), 18a.
  • Sensation as if sand was in the eyes, with smarting pain and acrid tears (fourth day), 7.
  • Eyes feel dry, as if full of sand (seventh day), 12. [110.]
  • Eyes have felt throughout the proving as if dry, and inner surface of lids feel rough (tenth day), 12.

PICRICUM ACIDUM. SEXUAL ORGANS

  • Male.
  • Terrible erections, with restless sleep (first night); long-continued and violent erections, all night (fourth night); erections like h---ll; violent, strong, and long-lasting, which I thought would surely rupture the penis; followed by profuse seminal emissions (fifth night); violent erections, all night ; could not sleep for them; had to get up, walk around, and bathe the parts in cold water (eighth night); sleep broken up by violent erections, lasting all night; had to sit up (eleventh night); violent erections (twelfth night); erections, with severe pain in left testicle, as if bruised, extending up the cord as far as the external abdominal rings, at 11 A.M. (thirteenth day), 28.*
  • This is the fourth morning, in succession, I have awoke with an erection (sixth day), 18a.
  • Awoke in the night with violent erections, which cold water relieved; returned to bed, and before an hour had elapsed, was again awakened by violent erections, applied cold water, and slept the remainder of the night (I will here remark, that I had been suffering for several months with loss of sexual vigor and entire absence of venereal desire, not having had any erections for several months, but now it is the reverse, altogether too much of a good thing), (third day), 11.

  • For two weeks following, the drug marked increase of sexual desire. After a second dose, most remarkable and intense sexual excitement, which is not allowed to be gratified by any indulgence. Amorous excitement, impelling the mind to dwell on and revel in imaginary sexual pleasure. Almost constant priapism, night and day, for seven days, impelling to amorous ecstasies and mental analysis of the physiological and psychological aspect of venery, 13.
  • Female.
  • An occasional aching pain in left ovarian region (after about four hours and a half, fourth day), 12.
  • In the evening, twinges of pain in the left ovarian region (tenth day), 12.
  • Appearance of menses, which have been delayed a week (normal menstruation very regular); during the period, profuse yellowish-brown leucorrhœa (thirteenth day). Menses painful the first time in several months; a sore bruised pain in abdominal region, with a sickening sensation. (Normal menstruation profuse and protracted, of a good color, no change in character, quality, or otherwise), 12.
  • Excessive and voluptuous pruritus, at night, after retiring, lasting about half an hour, making me feel irritable and exasperated (usually pruritus slight after menses, never before), (twelfth day), 12.

RESPIRATORY ORGANS

  • Dry cough, as from dust in the throat, followed by nausea (after three hours and a half), 5.
  • Can get the breath only half way down (eighth day), 4.

CHEST

  • Chest feels tight, as if encircled by a band (after nine hours, fifth day), 7. [290.]
  • In the evening slight pain in left lung, which felt as though there would be a stitch if a deep inspiration was taken, but on taking one three was not (seventh day), 18a.

  • Palpitation of the heart (first, second, third days, after first dose, twelfth day, and after second dose, thirteenth day), 15. [300.]
  • All day long, at intervals of ten minutes, a peculiar fluttering sensation at the base of the heart; it seemed to move; it startles me for a moment, but do not think of it again until the symptom recurs; continued all evening at shorter intervals than during the day; it became very annoying (second day); a slight fluttering of the heart, in the evening (third day); fluttering at the heart (fourth day), 12a.
