In gouty conditions affecting the knee and hip joints, with a general rheumatoid condition and a tendency to alternate from one joint to another, we find Kreosotum useful.
There is much restlessness and very severe red, hot, burning pains; all these are the points that call our attention to Kreosotum.
NECK AND BACK
Pain in back at night < when lying.
PAIN IN SMALL OF BACK AS IF IT WOULD BREAK, < DURING REST, > FROM MOTION.
SUPERIOR EXTREMITIES
Pain in shoulders as if they had been uncovered all night.
STITCHES IN ARM FROM SHOULDER JOINT THROUGH TO FINGERS.
Pain as if bruised when touching inner side of upper arm.
Pain in elbow joint as if tendons were too short.
Cramping pain in ulnar muscles extending to little finger, < left arm, with lameness in right.
LEFT THUMB PAINS AS IF SPRAINED AND STIFF.
INFERIOR EXTREMITIES
PAIN IN LEFT HIP JOINT AS IF LUXATED; AS IF LEG WERE TOO LONG WHEN STANDING.
BORING PAIN IN RIGHT HIP ALTERNATING WITH NUMBNESS AND LOSS OF SENSATION OF WHOLE THIGH.
Sensation as if the knee joint would suddenly give way.
Alternate swelling of knee joints and wrists with sensation of numbness and rigidity of limbs.
Swelling and stiffness of feet.
Stitches in right ankle and left heel.
EXTREMITIES IN GENERAL
ALTERNATE SWELLING OF KNEES AND JOINTS OF HANDS.
PAIN IN ALL LIMBS AS IF BEATEN OR STIFF AFTER A LONG WALK.
STITCHING PAINS IN JOINTS.
RHEUMATIC PAINS IN JOINTS, ALSO STITCHES, ESPECIALLY OF HIP AND KNEE; NUMBNESS OF WHOLE LIMB AS IF ASLEEP.
AGGRAVATIONS
When lying.
DURING REST.
AMELIORATIONS
FROM MOTION.
CONCOMITANTS
GENERAL RESTLESSNESS.
ATTACKS OF NAUSEA AND VOMITING WITH RHEUMATISM.
EXCORIATING DISCHARGES.
