Rhamnus frangula, Linn.

Natural order , Rhamnaceæ.

Common names , Black alder, Buckthorn alder; (G), Brech-wegdorn; (F), Nerprun-bourgène, Aulne noir, Bourdaine.

Preparation , Tincture (and triturations) of the bark, gathered in spring from the younger branches.

  • Frequent vomiting instead of diarrhœa, so that the fresh bark cannot be recommended as a cathartic, 3.

  • Warmth in the stomach and abdomen, 2.

ABDOMEN

  • Distension of the abdomen, 2.
  • Profuse emission of flatus, 2.

  • Increased peristaltic movements in the intestines, 2.
  • Sensation of warmth in the abdomen, 5.

RECTUM AND ANUS

  • Itching in the anus, 2.

STOOL

  • Thin pasty stools, 1.
  • Fifteen thin stools, with violent rumbling and gurgling, especially in the ileo-cæcal region and along the transverse colon, followed by distension of the abdomen, thirst, coated tongue, bitter taste, and weakness, 4.
  • Stools without great urging, thick, pasty, of a dark-green color, copious (after five or six hours), 5.
  • Pasty stools, 2.
  • Evacuations hard and scanty, 2. [30.]
  • Constipation at first, followed by diarrhœa, 2.

URINARY ORGANS

  • Slight burning in the urethra, while urinating, 1.
  • Frequent micturition, 2.

PULSE

  • Accelerated pulse, 1.

  • Weakness of all the limbs, 2.
