Common name , Tiger Lily.
Preparation , Tincture of the flowers only (proving Nos.
2 and 3 ), or tinct. of stalks, leaves, and flowers, gathered in August (subsequent provings).

MIND
- Emotional.
- The most marked effect was exhibited by the mental and reproductive organs, 16.
- Excitement, weeping, feeling as if she were two persons, at night (sixty-fifth day), 7.
- A sense as if "she were going to be crazy, if she did not hand on to herself, and hold tight," 10.
- Slight delirium and startings (third day), 1.
- Aversion to being alone, and yet no dread felt ; tranquil, but liked to see others and hear them talk (twenty-third day), 7.
- Taciturn and reticent, during the day (third day), 13.
- Depression (forty-second day), 7.
- Depression of spirits, disposition to weep (tenth and twelfth days), 5a.
- *Depression of spirits; constant inclination to weep, with fearfulness, and apprehension of suffering from some terrible internal disease, already seated (very marked symptom observed by two provers), (after forty-three days), 5. [10.]
- Profound mental depression ; to the prover "the heavens seemed brass and the earth iron;" an apprehension of moral obliquity weighed grievously upon her, for about ten days after the sexual excitement, and continuing in alternation with the sexual excitement for more than four months after the proving, 16.*

- Despondency, with aggravation at night and diarrhœa in the morning, and great feeling of slowness and inability to get at her work (sixty-fifth day), 7.

- A good deal of mental anxiety throughout the proving; despondent; gloomy; difficulty in expressing her thoughts; of recollecting; of selecting words; and expressed to her sister great fear of insanity, 6.

- She wants somebody to talk to her and entertain her (a feeling quite unusual with her); feels quite nervous; wants to cry from a feeling of irritation and of something wrong in the abdomen and pelvic organs; feels hurried and yet incapable, as if she had a great deal to do and cannot do it (twenty-second day), 7.
- While attending a lecture, desire to hit the lecture, and in the evening desirous of swearing and damning the fire and things generally, and to think and speak obscene things; disposed to strike and hit persons; as these feelings came, the uterine pains passed away (forty-third day), 7.

HEAD
- Confusion and Vertigo. [50.]
- Slightly confused feeling in head, with little pain; had been reading and writing (after one hour); confused feeling increased, after going to bed (first night), 4.
- At times slightly confused, then almost crazed feeling in the head, 14.
- Head so muddled that I feared to lecture, nevertheless the more I spoke the better I was able to concentrate my mind upon the subject of my lecture (seventh day), 13.
- The head grows wild after she has been quiet for a short time (tenth day), 7.
- Dizziness, continuing very severe for about two hours, and gradually subsiding (twenty-fourth day), 13.
- Dizziness and faint feeling all over; blur before the eyes; fear of falling, aggravated in a close hot room, and ameliorated when the fresh air strikes the uncovered head and face, although the cool air produces a feeling of chilliness; better also when walking in the street; these symptoms continued very severe for about two hours, then gradually diminished (twenty-fourth day), 13.

- A crowded feeling of the head and face, 3.
- Rushing as of some fluid through the head, generally from right to left, 14.
- Peculiar pressing headache (fourteenth day), 11.
- Darting pains in different parts of the head (after a new hours, seventh day), 7. [80.]
- (I am subject to sick headache, but had none while under the influence of the drug), 3.
- Forehead.
- Pain in the forehead above the eyes, severe for more than an hour, then gradually abating (after two hours, fourteenth day), 5.
- Between 5 and 6 P.M. an intense blinding headache came on, confined to the forehead, lasting about two hours (after nine hours); then changed to the back of the head, and extended down the neck, leaving a strange muddled feeling about the head, with general weakness and desire to lie down (eleventh day), 6.
- Heat and pain in forehead over eyebrows, extending to eyes (first to eight night), 6.
- Hot pain about the forehead and eyes, in the evening (thirtieth day), 6.
- Severe hot pain in the forehead, with prostration, coming on between 6 and 8 P.M. (fourteenth day), 6.

- Pressing pains at the angle between the forehead and left temple, digging down into the orbit, making me wink, an hour after rising in the morning; the pains spread over the whole left hemisphere of the brain (eighth day), 13.
- Increase of headache, in the morning; it took a severe turn towards noon, passing from forehead and temples to the protuberances of the occiput; the pain is dull, pressive, and heavy, continuing the whole evening and through the night (fourteenth day), 13.
- Sensation as if a rubber band were stretched tightly from temple to temple, with the old pricking sensation in the forehead, in the evening in a warm room (sixth day), 13. [100.]
- Burning in the forehead, with burning-pressing pains, especially over left eye, in the evening (second day); the burning-pressing headache returns between 5 and 6 P.M., more in right side of forehead, increasing in strength as the evening passes on, though it does not reach its former severity (third day); old headache returned, with some lachrymation, in the evening in a warm room (sixth day), 13.
- Headache becomes worse in the fresh air, at 8 A.M. (seventh day), 13.
- Frontal burning-stinging headache, with the feelings of an elastic band stretched over it (seventh day), 13.
- Sore pain through the forehead and eyes, a feeling as if the parts had been beaten (twenty-fourth day), 6.
- Temples.
- Pain in the temples increased by pressure (seventh and ninth days after 12 drops), 10.
- Pressing sense of fulness in the temporal and frontal region of the brain, a bursting as it were, which was relieved by pressure, 10.

- Shooting pain in the right temple, passing over to the left, affecting the whole front part of the head by a dull heavy sensation (after eleven hours, twenty-fifth day), 6.
- Vertex.
- Pressure and a crazy feeling upon the top of the head, so that she cannot write her symptoms (twentieth day), 7.
- Parietals.
- Dulness of the right side of the head, increasing to a sensation of pressure, inclining the head over to the left side, 2.
- Grumbling pain in right side of head and teeth (twenty-second day), 7.
- Old pain in left side of head, temple, and parietal bone, and malar bone, when sitting and not at work; relieved by motion and occupation; followed by diarrhœa and pressure on the bladder (sixty-first day), 7.

- Dull pressing-aching from the left temple over the ear to the occiput in paroxysms, with steady, dull, frontal headache, especially over the left eye (first day), 13.

- Occiput.
- Headache in occiput and over eyes (twenty-fifth day), 7.
- Screwing pain in protuberance of left occiput, with drawing pain on left side of nucha; after going to bed the pain in neck increased to a burning sensation, as from applied electricity; the whole neck feels lame and tired (fifteenth day), 13.
- External Head. [120.]
- Some tenderness felt in the left side of head, forehead, and temple; this is the place where the excessive heat of the sun produced congestion, still I never suffered from it before in winter (it is now December 1st), (after one month), 13.
EYE
- Objective.
- My eyes look wild, and my husband fears I may become insane, 12.
- Dull reddish injection of eyes (second morning), 6.
- Outer canthus of right eye much inflamed, extending to inner canthus (seventy-fourth day); inner corner of right eye still feels raw; aggravated by fresh, especially damp cold air; sight not affected (after three months), 8.
- Subjective.
- Intense pain in both eyes, extending back into the head, worse during the night (after eleven hours, twenty-fifth day), 6.
- Burning feeling in the eyes after reading or writing; eyes feel very weak (twenty-third day), 13.
- Eyes feel as if full of tears the whole day (seventh day), 13.
- Severe pressure in right eye, lasting two hours (second day), 9.
- Brow.

- Sharp pain over the left eye, at 6 P.M. (three hours after second dose), abating after about an hour, but continuing all the evening; it disappeared after sleeping (third day), 5a.
- Sharp though not severe pain over left eye, almost continuously through the forenoon; increasing after the dose (second day), 14.
- Lids.
- Eyes heavy and eyesight dim (fifteenth day), 13.
- Lids agglutinated (seventy-fourth day), 8.
- Lachrymal Apparatus.
- Eyes full of water, in the afternoon (fifth day), 13.
- Lachrymation of the left eye (ninth day), 13.
- Vision.

- Vision was impaired, the dimness continuing for several months, 16.
- Great dimness of sight (after eleven hours, twenty-fifth day), 6.

- Blur before the eyes, very severe for about two hours, then gradually subsiding, in the afternoon (twenty-fourth day), 13.
- Blurred sight, with heat in eyelids and eyes , this was constant and very troublesome, 14.
- Confusion and dimness of sight, with a disposition to cover the eyes and press upon them (fifth day), 15.
- Prover's eyesight always weak; she is hypermetropic, uses convex fourteen glasses, now sight is much worse (fourth day); sight worse, eyes very painful, smarting, must close them often; light painful, darkness pleasant (fifth day), eyes very sore, sight dim; must cause the proving (sixth day), eyes no better (eleventh day); having suffered as above for four weeks, my eyes returned to their former condition, with one exception; whereas formerly for one year I had a Habit of turning my head towards the left when reading, trying thereby to look with the left eye out of the right glass of the spectacles, and this in order to see the whole of a letter, like b, p, d, etc., of which otherwise I could see only the straight part, but not the curve, now I can see distinctly without turning the head and looking sidewise (after about ten weeks), 9.
- Eyes very sensitive to gaslight, which causes intolerable burning pain (after seventy-four days); left eye subsequently affected in the same way, 8.
- An appearance as of a veil before the eyes, at 8 A.M. (seventh day), 13.
- Muscæ volitantes at various times, 6.
EAR
- Slight rushing sounds in both ears, after going to bed (first night).
NOSE
- Rubbed her nose violently, 1.

FACE
- Face, especially forehead, flushed and hot, and a pricking sensation in the skin of the forehead, in the afternoon (fifth day), 13.
- Congestion to the face, in the forenoon (fifth day), 13.
- Left cheek of a bright-red color and hot to touch, in the morning when awakening (twelfth day), 5a.
- Pain in right side of face, apparently in cheek (malar?) bone, with stoppage of right nostril, and a feeling in the head like that which proceeds from a severe cold (twenty-ninth day), 5.
- Dull pain in the right side of the face (jaw), with a sensation of elongation of the teeth (thirty-first day), 6.
MOUTH
- Grumbling in hollow teeth (thirty-first day), 6.
- Coated feeling in mouth and throat on waking in the night (first day), 4. [160.]

- Bloody taste in the mouth, in the afternoon, continuing two hours, and gradually subsiding (twenty-fourth day), 1.
STOMACH
- Appetite.
- Appetite tremendous, especially for meat, and the more so the more pronounced the symptoms were (thirty-second day); desire for meat returns (forty-second day), 7.
- Great hunger, as it were, in the back, and extending up to the occiput and over the vertex; she ate enormously, yet felt as though she should starve to death (sixty-first day), 7.
- Craving appetite for dinner, and also for supper (sixth day), 15.
- Increased desire for meat, and has eaten a great deal (twenty-fifth day), 7.
- Appetite failed (second day after 12 drops), 10.

- Flatulent distension of stomach and bowels, with rumbling, in the evening (fourth day), 3.

- General Abdomen.
- Unusual distension of the abdomen and chest during the forenoon (thirty-first day), 6.*

- Symptoms passed of with a free evacuation of the bowels, which was followed by an acrid smarting at the anus, and at 8 A.M. griping pain in bowels returned, with heat and pain in and across the forehead about 5 P.M. (second day), gradually increasing during the evening and night as before, though less severe, abating as before in the morning at about 8 A.M., with a free and loose discharge from the bowels, followed by the same acrid, smarting sensation at the anus and up the rectum (third day), recurring daily till the eighth day, gradually diminishing in severity. Every morning after rising for five days up to the eighth day, there was diarrhœic discharge from the bowels, followed by the same acrid, irritating sensation at the anus and up the rectum as at first; this irritation seemed as if produced by a hot, irritating spray projected upon the parts, and usually continued for about two hours, gradually subsiding, 6.
- Griping pains after each diarrhœic discharge (twenty-third day), 6. [230.]
- Grumbling belly-ache (Iris versicolor), with little inclination to stool (usual bowel pains are relieved by stool), (second day), 13.
- Dragging-down sensation of the whole abdominal contents, extending to the organs of the chest, feeling greatly the need of support (thirtieth day), 6.
- Had to leave company on account of cutting pain in the bowels, so severe that she took Nux, which relieved, at 8 P.M. (after 12 drops), 10.
- Sharp, cutting pain in right side, between short ribs and hip, running to centre of bowels, 14.
- Sharp lancinating pain, extending from the left hypochondriac region to the crest of the ilium (fifty-third and fifty-fourth days), 8.
- Abdomen tender to pressure in the morning (second day), 3.
- Abdominal muscles sore just before a stool, but not much during stool; an unbearable soreness; she would like to scream (forty-fourth day), 7.
- Left side of the abdomen still sore to pressure (twenty-ninth day), 6.
- Trembling sensation in abdomen, with chilliness (forty-third day), 5.
- Hypogastrium and Iliac Regions.
- Rumbling in the lower part of the bowels, more on right side (after third dose, first day), 3. [240.]
- Heat and pressure in the hypogastrium (soon after first dose, second day), 3.
- Constant burning pain across the hypogastrium from groin to groin (forty-second day), 7.
- Griping pains in the lower part of the bowels, as if diarrhœa were about to ensue, with restless, weary feeling, followed by four loose discharges (sixth day), and continuing the three subsequent days, with great languor, 15.
- Feeling as though diarrhœa would come on, but passes off by urinating; every day, and sometimes several times a day, 14.
- Felt as if the menses were coming on, two weeks too soon (sixty-first day), 7.
- A sensation in the pelvis as though everything was coming into the work through the vagina , very distressing, and not relieved by change of position; the dragging downwards towards the pelvis is felt as high as the stomach, and even the shoulders; not relieved by lying down, though worse when standing; a disposition to place the hand upon the hypogastrium and press upwards, in order to relieve the dragging sensation (twentieth day); steadily increasing while riding (twenty-first day); when walking, a sensation as if everything were pressing down in the pelvis, so that she inhales forcibly, in order to draw up the thorax and relieve the pelvis of weight (twenty-second day), 7.*
- In the pelvis, a feeling like a dragging out, as if the whole contents were pushing down into a funnel , the outlet of which coincided with the vagina (twenty-third day), 7.*
- Pressure downwards, in the lower portion of the bowels, almost constant, 14.
- *When at stool, severe downward pressure in the bowels and at the anus, with a feeling as if diarrhœa would ensue, but without fecal evacuation (observed by two provers); with every effort, only a small quantity of urine would be discharged (after forty-three days), 5.
- Pressing down and burning all around the pubes and genitals, worse from 3 to 5 P.M., and going off before 8 P.M., accompanied by pressure on the bladder, the water high-colored and scanty; she could pass water every quarter of an hour (sixty-fifth day), 7. [250.]
- Bearing down in lower part of abdomen continues , now the twentieth day since it commenced, with severe pressure in the rectum and at the anus, and a constant desire to go to stool, but with every effort to evacuate the bowels, urine only was discharged, sensation as if a hard body were pressing backwards and downwards against the rectum and anus; standing on the feet aggravated and increased the desire to go to stool ; these symptoms were somewhat relieved by walking in the open air and riding (forty-third day), 5.*
- Bearing-down pains, particularly in walking; pressure and weight low down in the vagina , for two days; (she has once or twice before had such feelings, and then from excessive fatigue from walking or working), (after more than three months), 8.*
- Bearing-down sensation in the pelvis; everything seemed to be pressing out of the vagina (thirty-eighth day); continued like light labor pains; worse afternoon and evening till midnight (thirty-ninth day), 7.*
- Bearing-down pain, as though menstruation would come on, 14.*
- She could not sleep for the continued pelvic pain, which resembled that of imminent miscarriage (fortieth day), 7.
- The feeling of weight and pressure in the hypogastric and left ovarian region continued to recur at intervals till within a few days (after two months), 6.
- Great weight and bearing down in the lower part of the bowels (after 2 P.M., twenty-fourth day), 6.
- Increased depressing weight over the pubes (after supper), (tenth day), 7.
- Intermittent, sharp pain across the lower part of bowels, seemingly near the bladder (after nine hours and three-quarters, first night), 4.
- Some tearing pain in the lower part of the abdomen from the region of the ovaries down both sides (seventh day), 7. [260.]
- Left side of the lower part of the abdomen (ovarian region) feels sore to the touch; darting pains at times in this region, extending to the groin and to the pubes, in front (sixteenth day), 6.
- Pain in the right iliac region, better during motion (tenth day), 7.
- Drawing in the right inguinal region (after 2 P.M., twenty-fourth day), 6.
- Painful drawing about the left inguinal region, extending to the pubis (thirty-third day), 6.
- From the anterior superior spinous process of the ilium (both sides), a pulling downwards and backwards (twenty-fifth day), 7.
- Stinging feeling in the left inguinal or ovarian region most of the time lately, with feeling of fulness and voluptuous itching in the vagina (twenty-sixth day), 6.
RECTUM AND ANUS
- Anus stiff and painful, with a tight painful drawing through the forehead and eyes (twenty-sixth day), 4.
- Pressing in rectum and anus (twelfth day), 5a.*

- *Pressure in the rectum, with almost constant desire to go to stool, 14. [270.]

STOOL
- Diarrhœa.
- Diarrhœa; has had four stools, at 11 A.M., the first at 7 A.M.; hurrying her ; she cannot wait a minute; stool loose, but not watery, and dark brown; this attack is like the two previous ones (sixty-second day), 7.
- *The first effect was diarrhœa, appearing the third day, and continuing daily throughout the proving; it occurred directly after dinner, was sudden and peremptory; discharges copious and bilious, with burning of the rectum and anus, and severe tenesmus, and followed by extreme exhaustion, 16.
- Morning diarrhœa, with increased smarting and irritation of the passage; with griping in the bowels, and rasping sensation at the anus and in the rectum after the passages; the diarrhœa returned every morning on rising, followed by an acrid smarting sensation about the passage , for about two months, 6.*
- Some diarrhœic discharge with acrid smarting of the whole alimentary canal, in the morning on rising (thirty-second day), 3.
- The usual diarrhœic passage from the bowels in the morning, followed by the same acrid, smarting sensation, with great weakness and trembling (sixteenth day), 6.
- Several dejections, dark-colored, very offensive (third morning); large, dark-colored, very offensive discharge, and immediately began to skin (after fifty-six hours); death (after fifty-nine hours), 1.
- Bowels naturally regular; now she has alternately a solid and as loose stool, several during the day, and a constant feeling as though she must have a stool; this feeling resulted from a sensation as if something were pushing against the anterior wall of the rectum at the anus, and about two to three inches above it (twenty-second day); for the last thirty-six hours constant desire for stool from pressure on the rectum; a stool every half hour, lumpy, small, diarrhœic, with wind; constant tenesmus; she could sit at stool forever, and burning in the urethra; continuing several days; took Helonias 200, and was greatly relieved (twenty-third day), 7.
- Evacuation of the bowels, at first of natural appearance, then followed discharges colored yellow, the same as the vomiting and the discharge from the nose, and at last bloody discharges; dejection checked (after nine hours), 1. [280.]
- A powerful discharge from the bowels this morning on rising, of a dark color, and very offensive, leaving the same acrid, sore sensation at the anus, extending upwards into the middle of the bowels, continuing for several hours (twelfth day), 6.
- Evacuation from the bowels, dark and hard, followed by a great deal of heat in the rectum and anus, with slight pains in the abdomen (very soon after first dose, second day), 3.
- Constipation.
- Bowels constipated (third day); still constipated (fifth day), 15.*
URINARY ORGANS
- Bladder.
- Pressure on the bladder and rectum (forty-second day), 7.
- *Pressure on the bladder, the water being high-colored and scanty; she cold pass water very quarter of an hour; in the afternoon (sixty-fifth day), 7.
- *For the last three days more continual pressure on the bladder, wants to urinate all the time, passing but little, followed by smarting and tenesmus (twenty-fifth day), 7.
- Irritation in the bladder continues, but she can control it by determining not to urinate (twenty-seventh day), 7.

- *Frequent desire to urinate through the day, with scanty discharge and a feeling of irritation and smarting in the urethra after every discharge (second to twenty-sixth days), 6 . (An entirely new symptoms to the prover.)
- Frequent and urgent desire to pass urine , slight in quantity, milky in appearance when passed, but depositing a red sediment on standing, with smarting and irritation after every passage (twenty-sixth day), 6.
- Constant desire to urinate ; for several nights had to rise twenty times to urinate (sixty-ninth day), 7.*
- Frequent urination (fifteenth day), 13.
- Frequent but scanty urinating, 14 ; (after forty-third day), 5 ; with acrid smarting of the urethra (thirty-second day), 6.
- *Frequent urination during the day, with smarting in the urethra when passing it, 13.

- Bladder evacuated four times in about ten hours, which is very unusual with him during the night (first night); several evacuations of bladder during the day (second day), 4.

- Increased secretion of urine during the days in which I took the medicine, 11.
- Urine increased and dark-colored (after two or three weeks), 7.

- Burning hot urine, seeming more like boiling oil than water (seventh day), 13.
SEXUAL ORGANS
- Male.
- Seminal emission toward morning (extremely rare), (sixteenth day), 13.
- Female.
- The most marked effect was exhibited by the reproductive and mental organs, 16.
- On examination the uterus was found low down, the fundus tilted forwards, and the os uteri pressing backwards upon the rectum, allowing but a difficult passage of the index finger between the os and the rectum (forty-eight day), 5.*
- On introducing the finger into the vagina, she finds the os, which is usually so high as to be almost out of reach, now so low as to be only a half-finger high, the os much tilted back and pressing against the rectum, the fundus pressing on the bladder (sixty-ninth day), 7.*
- Extreme pain and bearing down in the uterine region, constant distress as from approaching menstruation, 16.*
- Aching in the pelvis between the promontory of the sacrum and the pubes; it feels to her as if the aching were not in the uterus but around it; she feels constantly the two spots corresponding in position to the ovaries, which ache and feel like little coals of fire (twenty-third day); the pain in the right ovary increased, until at last it seemed as if a knife were inserted into the ovary and ripped down the groin and the anterior part of the thigh; the pain extended over the lumbo-sacral region, and she must cry herself to sleep; the pain extended up to the right hypochondrium; somewhat relieved by pressure on the ovary (twenty-sixth day), 7.
- *Bearing down, with sensation of heavy weight and pressure in the region of the womb, as if the whole contents would press out through the vagina (eighteenth day), 6.
- *Great bearing down in the uterine region, and a feeling when on the feet as if the whole pelvic contents would issue through the vagina, if not prevented by pressure upward with the hand, as the vulva, or by sitting down (twenty-ninth day), 6.
- Severe neuralgic pain (I think) in my uterus, so severe that I could not bear to be touched or moved, and even the jar of any one against the bed was torture to me; I could hot bear the weight of my clothes upon the pelvic region, this never lasted more than an hour and a half at a time and passed off without leaving any lameness; upon the recurrence of the symptoms I found by examination that the womb was anteverted; this is something that never took place before in my experience, 12. [320.]
- While attending a lecture much irritation in the womb and desire to hit the lecturer; and in the evening, desirous of swearing and damning the fire and things generally, and to think and speak of obscene things; disposed to strike and hit persons; as these feelings came the uterine pains passed away (forty-third day), 7.
- While sitting at a lecture felt much irritation in the womb (forty-second day); feeling of irritation inside the uterus (forty-third day), 7.
- Ovaries.
- When walking, pain in both ovaries, worse in the left , extending down the anterior and inner aspect of the left thigh, as if it would be impossible to take another step; as soon as she extended the limb she must immediately flex it again, and then, because of a restless feeling, must again extend it; at length she went to sleep on the back with knees and thighs flexed (twenty-first day); she cannot tell which pelvic region is the worse, that in the back or that in the pubic region; the whole contents of the pelvis seem to drag downwards and forwards and quite from the stomach (twenty-second day), 7.
- Pain in right ovary and some backache (twenty-eighth day), 7.
- Grasping pain in the left ovarian and inguinal regions, with pain in the right hip, extending down the thigh, continuing throughout the day (twentieth day), 6.
- Dull, drawing pain in the left ovarian region, relieved by gentle pressure on the part with the hand, disappeared about 10 o'clock A.M. (thirteenth day), 6.
- Pains in the right ovarian region, a gnawing, dragging sensation, worse on walking, a feeling as if something were shaking loose in that region whenever the right foot was planted firmly (fourth and fifth day), 9.
- *Sharp pain in the ovarian region (after six hours, fifteenth day), 6.
- Shooting pains in the left ovarian region, bearing down when standing, mitigated by sitting down (twenty-seventh day), 6.
- Sharp cutting pains in the left ovarian region, extending across the lower part of the abdomen, relieved somewhat by gentle rubbing with the warm hand, in the evening and at night (nineteenth day), 6. [330.]
- Stinging, darting pains in the ovarian region throughout the day (eighteenth day), 6.
- The left ovarian region, becomes sore to pressure the pain grasping, and extending across the lower part of the abdomen; the pain was mitigated by rubbing and moderate pressure; the bearing down was so great that the parts had to be sustained by pressing upwards with the hand at the vulva (twenty-seventh day), 6.
- Somewhat tender on pressure in the region of the ovaries, especially the right (twenty-second day), 7.
- Constant feeling of irritation in the ovaries (seventy-fifth day), 7.
- Vagina.
- Leucorrhœa (a thin, acrid discharge, leaving a brown stain ; she thought it was the menses, which had ceased the week before); she never had any such trouble before; worse in the afternoon and evening till midnight (thirty-ninth day); the next day it had ceased and she felt better in the morning; but in the afternoon it returned and continued all night, and was more excoriating than before producing a rash and a little swelling (fortieth day); acrid as before (forty-second day), 7.*
- Discharge of bright-red blood from the vagina (for the first time in two years), with dull heavy pain, and great weakness in the small of the back and loins, continued four following days (after twenty-four days), 5.
- A feeling as if the internal sexual organs were swollen; smarting and irritation of the labia, with heat as though the parts were inflamed; great tenderness about the whole sexual organs; very uncomfortable pressure downward, and an irresistible desire to sustain the parts by pressing upward with the hand (thirty-third day), 6.
- Severe pressing or bearing-down sensation in the sexual organs, with the feeling as if the whole internal parts were being pulled outward or downward from the breasts and umbilical region, through the vagina, with an irresistible desire to press the hands against the vulva to prevent the part from escaping (thirty-first day), 6.
- A sensation of pressure in the vagina and a pain at the top of the sacrum extending to the hips (seventh day), 7.
- Bearing down in the vagina, or rather a dread of it (twenty-fifth day), 7. [340.]
- Itching and smarting of the labia, with great uneasiness of the parts; sharp pain extending up the vagina (after six hours, fifteenth day), 6.
- Menses.
- Menses came at the regular time, more free than usual; relieving headache; after flowing twenty-four hours, ceased twelve, and then recurred, 7.
- A change in menstruation; the flow not one-fourth as much as usual, but followed by profuse bright-yellow leucorrhœa, so acrid as to excoriate the whole perineum, a new symptom for me, 12.
- Menses recurred, after an interval of only two weeks; a slight, dark, thick discharge, smelling like lochia (forty-fifth day), 7.
- The first month after taking the Lilium, menses anticipated five days; the second month delayed one day; the third month anticipated one day, 8.
- Menses appeared more than a month too late; scanty and of short duration (second day after 12 drops), 10.
- Menses occurred as usual, and regularly, and continued normal as long as she kept moving, but as soon as she ceased moving, the flowing ceased (twenty-seventh day); none this morning (twenty-eighth day), 7.
- Increased sexual instinct (first four days), 7.
- Sexual instincts strong now, whereas formerly she was very free from such feelings; she says the conjugal instinct is strongly developed (thirty-second day), 7. [350.]
- Rousing of sexual desire, which had been dormant for years (curative?), (tenth day), 13.
- *The sexual desire, dormant hitherto, was so strongly aroused that the prover said, "I am afraid of myself, I seem possessed of a demon;" this excitement continued almost three weeks, increasing in intensity, until an orgasm beyond the control of the prover would suddenly terminate it; during these attacks there was a constant urging to unusual physical exertion, walking, etc., in hope of relief, the mitigation afforded by this, however, ceasing with the effort; there was in this state a constant hurried feeling, as of imperative duties and utter inability to perform them; for about ten days following this excitement, there was a profound mental depression; to the prover, "the heavens seemed brass, and the earth iron;" although convinced that the sexual desire resulted from drug action and beyond her control, an apprehension of moral obliquity weighed grievously upon her; with the sudden passing off of this condition would as suddenly recur the excitement, and this alternation continued for more than four months after the proving, 6.
- In the first stage of its action, or stage of excitement, a condition of amorous excitement comes on suddenly and anywhere; a disposition to use obscene language, a kind of nymphomania; this stage gives place to sluggishness and despondency, and this to a hurried feeling of being impelled to work without herself desiring to work; it is not herself but her excited nervous system, which drives her to exertion, 7.
- Passionate excitement, aching and burning pain in the ovaries (worse in the right), which organs are distinctly defined to her sensation (sixty-fifth day), 7.
- The passional excitement, which has abated, returns; this was so great that I gave Platina 200, every three hours until relieved (sixty-ninth day), 7.
RESPIRATORY ORGANS
- Voice much affected when attempting to sing, could not control it (third day), 13.
- A single, dry cough (thirty-second day), 7.

- Compressive sensation in the chest, with a choked feeling, as if he would suffocate, but would be relieved if the blood could be discharged, which seems shut up in the heart; slight relief by deep sighing (eighth day), 13.
- Oppression and heat of chest, a kind of ebullition; must go into the fresh air for relief; at 8 A.M. (seventh day), 13.
- Oppressive and congestive feeling in the chest, increased in the evening (seventh day), 13.
- Oppression of the chest relieved by sighing (twenty-third day), 13.
- Oppressed feeling in the lower third of the chest, with oppressed breathing toward morning (eighth night), 6.
- Front.
- Feeling of lump under breast-bone, moving up and down by swallowing, 14.
- Dull, pressive pain under the sternum, towards the middle lobe of the right lung, relieved by sighing, and pressure with the hands (fifteenth day), 13.

- Tightness of the left side of the chest, in the evening (thirtieth day), 6.
- Constriction in the left side of the chest, at 6 P.M., increasing after lying down (twentieth day), 6.

- A feeling of constriction in the left side of the chest about the breadth of the hand below the left mamma (thirty-third day), 6.
- At two o'clock in the morning a feeling of stricture in the left side of the chest, extending across to the other side, and sharp pains running up to the throat, clavicle, and to the left armpit, ameliorated by change of position, but continued till after rising in the morning (sixteenth day), 6.
- Dull pain in the left side of the chest and at the shoulder (after six hours, fifteenth day), 6.
- *Dull pressive pain in the left side, apparently about the heart (after one hour and a half), 2.
- Constant feeling of load or weight in left chest, 14.*
- Fine pains, sometimes gnawing, in the right side of the chest, with a feeling of lameness and soreness of the muscles, and a desire to stretch the parts; the lameness extended through to the shoulder-blade of that side (second day); the gnawing sensation in the right side of the chest, together with the fine pains increased, and extended over to the side (third day); the lameness and fine pains continued (fourth day); but had disappeared, in the morning (fifth day); the same pains returned in the right side of the chest, with pressure, and a sensation as if a weight pressed heavily upon the chest (after fifteen minutes, sixth day), 15.
- *Sharp and quick pain in left side of chest, with fluttering of the heart (one hour after second dose, third day), 5a.
- Quick, sharp pain in left chest very frequently, 14.*
- Sharp twinges, followed by a dull, drawing sensation in the left side of the chest, extending upwards to the collar-bone, in the morning (thirteenth day), 6.
- Mammæ.
- Pain in the left mamma , in the morning (thirteenth day), 6. [390.]
- Left mamma painful, with drawing sensation in the left armpit and shoulder (thirty-first day), 6.
- Severe pain and feeling of heaviness of the left mamma, a sensation of grasping of the part, extending backwards to the left shoulder-blade and down that side to the lumbar region, at 10 P.M., after lying on the left side for awhile (eleventh day), 6.
- Pain in left mammary gland, passing around under the shoulder-blade to the spine, 6.
- Dull pain and constricted feeling in the left mamma and side, with oppressed breathing, worse upon lying down (seventeenth day), 6.
- Crampy pain in left mamma and shoulder (twenty-fifth day), 6.
- Dull aching in left mammary gland, and under the left shoulder-blade, continues in the evening and night (nineteenth day), 6.
- Sharp, cutting pains in both mammary glands, extending from the left mamma to the left shoulder-blade, and to the spine, ameliorated by changing position (fourteenth night), 6.
- Severe cutting pain in the left mamma, extending through to the left shoulder-blade, increased by lying on that side (eighth and ninth night), 6.
- Frequent stitching pains in left mamma, and a drawing sensation, extending to the shoulder and neck; the pain became more severe at 2 P.M., extending to the neck (twenty-fourth day); the pains in the left mamma and side and about the left shoulder-blade have been most troublesome, and have continued longest, indeed have not yet wholly disappeared (after two months), 6.
HEART AND PULSE
- Præcordium.
- Constant heavy feeling in left side, in region of the heart, all the afternoon (second day), 3. [400.]
- Suddenly aroused from sleep by pain in the left side, as if the heart were violently grasped, and the grasp gradually relaxed, interrupting the pulsations of the heart, and the breathing , relieved by rubbing and pressure, 2.
- Heart symptoms really troubled her about walking; short of breath, especially on going upstairs, and was obliged to stop and repose (thirty-second day), 7.
- Heaviness and pressure about the heart after eating; this symptom has increased very much and is sometimes almost unendurable, 14.
- Heart feels heavy (eighth day), 13.
- Pain in the region of the heart all the time, but increased by stooping, leaning forward, or lying down, 14.
- Dull, heavy, or pressive pain in region of the heart, 3.
- Heaviness in region of heart, and palpitation when lying on the left side, worse in bed, at night (fourth night): the heart symptoms became so troublesome that I was obliged to discontinue further use of the drug (fifth day), 3.
- The dull pressive pain in the left side, coldness of the outer side of the left leg, and pressure in the right side of the head, gradually increased for about six hours, then gradually abated, when I felt into a sleep which continued for about four hours, from which I was suddenly aroused by pain in the left side, as if the heart were violently grasped, 2.
- Pain in the region of the heart, worse when stooping, leaning forward or bowing, in the afternoon, and more particularly when lying down at night ; better in the morning and forenoon; the pain in the heart continued for more than two weeks, gradually abating, and at last, could be felt only when leaning forward, stooping or bowing; the pain was so persistent and annoying that I abandoned further trial, 2.
- Awakened by distressing pain and pressure, with fluttering of the heart; the pain was not acute, but a pressure (first night), 14. [410.]
- Twice a sharp pain in the apex of the heart (thirtieth day), 7.
- An occasional quick pain about the heart was felt, with labored breathing when walking rapidly or ascending a flight of stairs, 16.
- Slight momentary spasmodic twitchings around the heart in the forenoon (fifth day), 13.
- Noticed some heart symptoms, not very definite (twenty-ninth day); a sudden fluttering sensation in the heart, after walking; this like other symptoms is less felt if she can busy herself much (thirtieth day), 7.
- Very violent feeling of fluttering in the heart; frequently waking up in the night with it; not relieved by changing position, 14.
- A hurried, forcing feeling about the heart, with faintness and fluttering as though she could do nothing, but must put by her work and sit still; relieved by repose; feels hurried as though she must breathe quickly, yet does not (thirtieth day), 7.
- Heart's Action.
- Violent beating of the heart, and throbbing of the carotids, preventing sleep, when lying on either side of the body; after the creeping chills down the back; lasting a month (after two weeks), 8.
- Palpitation of heart, and beating of the arteries, felt only when lying in bed, or during a siesta (sixteenth day), 13.
- Frequent attacks of palpitation of the heart (fifth day), 3a.
- Violent palpitation very frequent, 14. [420.]
- Fluttering of the heart, with sharp and quick pain in left side of chest (one hour after second dose, third day), 5a.
- Weak beating of the heart, continuing two hours and gradually subsiding, in the afternoon (twenty-fourth day), 13.
- The heart's action was intermittent; every intermission was followed by a violent throb, causing and involuntary catching of the breath, at the same time the blood rushed up through the carotids, to the head, producing great heat, and a crowded feeling of the head and face; these symptoms followed me for more than a month, indeed, so constant were they that I became alarmed, fearing I might have misjudged the case, and, instead of medicinal symptoms, I was really suffering from an organic disease of the heart; but a physical examination of the heart's action put my mind at rest; at the prevent time I have no trouble (after fifty days), 3.
- Pulse.
- Pulse small and weak, as if the blood did not reach the radial artery in the usual quantity (eighth day), 13.
- Pulse 76 (before taking); 88 (four hours after first dose, and two hours after second dose, first day); 72 (fifteen minutes after first dose, second day), 3.
LILIUM TIGRINUM. NECK AND BACK
- Neck.
- Dull pain in back of the neck, with feeling of constriction (twenty-fifth day), 5.
- Soreness of the cervical and occipital muscles, always worse when she has "thirsty spells," during the whole proving, 7.
- Back.
- Pain in the back and nausea (tenth day), 5a.
- Pain in back all the evening, till after midnight, when it abated somewhat (thirteenth day), 5a.
- Severe pain in back (third day), 11. [430.]
- Constant burning in the back (sixty-ninth day), 7.
- Some backache and pain in right ovary (twenty-eighth day), 7.
- Dorsal.
- Some pain between shoulders (second day), 4.
- Dull pain under right scapula, being weary from attending lectures; have felt it before when tired, 12.
- Pain in lower dorsal vertebræ, as if the back would break, for two days (after nearly three months), 8.
- Lumbar.
- Steady, though not severe pain in lumbar region (after nine hours and a quarter, first night); continuing though sensibly growing lighter; occasional transfer of pain to between shoulders (second morning), 4.
- Pain in lumbar region increasing in severity (after dose, second day); much distressed with pain in lumbar region, on rising in the morning, lasting through the day and not disappearing till evening (third day), 4.
- Sharp pain in the lumbar region, extending thence over the right hip to the umbilical region, relieved temporarily by rubbing (eighth, ninth and tenth nights), 6.
- Gnawing pain in the back, in the lumbar region, lasting all night, worse in bed (fourth and fifth night), 9.
- On changing position in bed, drawing pain in the right side of the loins, near the hip, increased after rising up (fifteenth day), 6. [440.]
- Pain in the lower part of the back (sixth day), 15.
- Constant dull pain low down in the backbone between the hips, 14.
- Dull and constant pain in the back, between the hips, with pressing downwards at the anus; continuing to tenth day, not much relieved by lying down (sixth day), 5a.

- Dull, heavy pain and great weakness in the small of the back and loins, continuing four following days (after twenty-four days), 5.
- Steady pain in the small of the back, in the spine, spreading both ways to the kidneys, continuing the whole day (seventh day), 13.

- Dull and occasional shooting pains across the small of the back, lasting a short time (after second dose, first day), 3.
- Sacral.
- Pain in sacrum all day (eleventh day), 5a.*

- Pain in the sacrum, with a sensation of weight and downward pressure in lower part of abdomen (hypogastrium), which continued with a good deal of severity for six days, worse when standing (after eighteen days), 5.*

EXTREMITIES IN GENERAL
- Severe pain in the second joints of fingers and in the ankle-joint, so that when driving the horse must be stopped, the jolting was so painful (seventeen days after 12 drops), 10.
- In early part of night, an outpressing sensation in hands, arms, feet, and legs (first to eighth day), 6.
- Quick pain in the ring fingers of both hands and corresponding toes of both feet, at the same time, passing off in a few seconds (after third dose, first day), 3.
SUPERIOR EXTREMITIES
- Shoulder.
- Crampy pain in left shoulder and mamma, 6.
- Arm.
- Tearing pains in the left upper arm, which seemed to be confined to the muscles (ninth day), 13.

- Pressing pains in the right arm and wrist (twenty-fifth day), 6.
- Wrist.
- Pain (a hard ache) in the right wrist, and great weakness of the part in the morning (twelfth day), 6.
- Hand.
- Tremor of the hands (third day), 10.
- Hands and arms stiff and hot as if parched (thirty-first day), 6.
- Right hand and arm stiff and painful, abating after 8 A.M. (sixteenth day), 6.
- Pricking, painful sensation in the hands and fingers, in the morning (twelfth day), 6.
- Fingers.
- Paralysis or stiffness of the fingers, so that she can hardly hold a pencil firmly enough to write (fourth day), 10.
- Fingers of right hand feel stiff, with cramp in the middle finger and up the arm, at 5 P.M. (thirtieth day), 6.
- Cramps in the fingers (twenty-fifth day), 6.
- Pain in the index finger, beginning at the point, like that produced by an electric current, with throbbing of the pulse (after eight hours, twenty-first day), 6. [470.]
- A sensation as of an electric current, beginning at the end of the left index finger, extended to the other fingers of the same hand and up the arm, at 5 P.M.; then in the right index finger, extending to the other fingers, to the hand and arm, continuing for several hours, with coldness of the feet during the time (twenty-eighth day); the sensation as of an electric current has been felt in the left hand occasionally, but has grown less and less at every recurrence; this, together with the burning of the feet and hands, subsided first (after two months), 6.
- Pricking sensation in the fingers of both hands, extending up the arms, with a strong outpressing sensation as if the blood would press through the veins, which continued into the night (after seven hours, twenty-ninth day), 6.
- Pricking sensation at the ends of the fingers of both hands, and great heat of the palms, at 5 P.M. (thirtieth day), 6.
INFERIOR EXTREMITIES
- Staggering gait; have to exert myself to the utmost to walk straight (seventh day), 13.
- Lassitude in the lower extremities, especially in the fleshy parts (seventh day), 13.
- Legs weak, and feel as if unable to support the body (fifteenth day), 13.
- Great weakness in the legs (thirtieth day), 7.
- When walking, the joints seem to lack synovial fluid; can almost hear the crepitus (third day), 10.
- Quick pains in the lower limbs (soon after first dose, second day), 3.
- Hip.
- Pain in the right hip and down the thigh (after six hours, twenty-third day), 6. [480.]
- Catching pains through the right hip, and down on the outside of the right thigh, worse when sitting up (twenty-second night), 6.
- Boring sensation in the right hip-joint, with stiff feeling of the muscles of the thigh (twenty-seventh day), 6.
- Severe, drawing pain in the right hip, extending down the outside of the thigh, relieved by moving the limb from place to place (seventeenth day), 6.
- Stitches coming and going through the day in right hip-joint (seventeenth day), 13.
- Slight stitches occasionally in the right hip-joint (seventh day), 13.
- Soreness in the right hip-joint, worse when she has "thirsty spells," during the whole proving, 7.
- Thigh.
- Lassitude in the thighs (eighth day), 13.
- Pain in left thigh, flatulency and lameness in ankle-joints when moving, gradually diminishing (third day), 3.
- A small spot, about the size of the end of the finger, on the inner side of the left thigh, about half way down to the knee, very painful at times, coming and going (soon after first dose, second day), 3.
- Sharp pain in the inside of the left thigh, over the femoral artery, about two inches below Poupart's ligament (six hours and a quarter after second dose, second day), 3. [490.]
- Much trembling sensation from the pelvis extending down the thighs (sixty-ninth day), 7.

- Trembling of the knees and abdomen, and lower part of the back (third day), 10.

- Knees feel weak, and are painful when walking, and especially when ascending an eminence (soon after first dose, second day), 3.

- Grasping pain in the knees, continuing for some time (after eight hours, twenty-first day), 6.

- Leg.
- Pains in the lower limbs, below the knees, shifting suddenly from place to place (after second dose, first day), 3.
- Dull, heavy pain from the knees to the ends of the toes, 3.
- Cramps in both legs and feet after the discharge from the bowels, in the morning (thirty-second day), 6.
- The legs ache, causing her to twist and turn (twenty-sixth day), 7.
- Swiftly darting pain about the legs for two hours during the evening, going off suddenly as they came on (thirtieth day), 6.
- Ankle.
- Pain in the ankle, extending to the toes (twenty-seventh day), 6.
- Pain in ankle-joints, worse when moving (after second dose, second day), 3.

- Dull, boring pain on the top of the left foot (soon after first dose, second day), 3.

- Felt hurried; walked all day; could not amuse herself by thinking or reading; it was aimless hurry and motion, up and down; could not go to sleep; wanted somebody to be with her and talk to her; felt that she could die, and did not care if she did; wondered who would take care of her body (sixty-first day); same restless desire to keep walking (seventy-fifth day), 7.
- Inert, yet don't want to sit quiet; is restless, yet don't want to walk; is cross and pettish (fortieth day), 7.
- Much nervousness (third day), 11.
- Subjective.
- She is conscious of feeling nervous and irritable, and yet says she feels jolly (twenty-second day), 7.
- Nervous symptoms, commencing after nine hours each day, not very strongly marked the first day, but growing worse and worse each day (after the first five doses), 10.
- Irritability of the whole system (eleventh night), 6.
- The prover feels that her whole system is profoundly affected by the drug; "she is not the person she once was;" feels hurried and yet cannot do much; no heart nor strength for business, which has not hitherto been a burden to her; does not like trying to do any work (thirtieth day), 7.
- She feels that the animal life predominates, and as though her life were going away (sixty-ninth day), 7.
- Feeling of great prostration (after six hours, twenty-third day), 6.
- Felt for a week entirely incapacitated for mental or physical exertion, 12. [550.]
- Faint feeling all over, very severe for about two hours, then gradually subsiding, in the afternoon (twenty-fourth day), 13.
- Was called out in the night, and, after lying down again, was miserable and restless; everything seemed too hot (seventh day), 13.
- Severe pain all night (seventeen days after 12 drops), 10.
- Sensation of burning, both internally and externally (fourteenth day), 13.
- Aching of the flesh and bones throughout the body (seventh and ninth days after 12 drops), 10.
- Muscles lame as though bruised, and the soles of the feet so sore that she cannot walk on them; the hands feel as though they had been pounded; every part of the body sore and bruised; can't bear pressure of the clothes (eighteen days after 12 drops); the train of symptoms did not leave her for nearly four weeks, 10.
- No pain, but the sore sensation which follows pain, in the morning (twenty-seventh day), 7.
- Pulsation of all the arteries (twentieth and twenty-second nights), 6.
- Throbbing pulsations over the body, and outpressing sensation in the hands and arms, as though the blood would burst through the veins, in the afternoon (sixteenth day), 6.
- The pains all occupy small spots, as if produced by hard pressure with the ends of the fingers on the parts (after second dose, first day), 3. [560.]
- The symptoms gradually increased in severity, with but little variation up to the forty-eighth day, when internal use of Helonias dioica gave relief in the course of twenty-four hours, and in three days the relief was entire, 7.
SKIN
- Irritation on the upper part of the chest and arms, and a fine rash about the forehead and around the borders of the hair, with much itching; not subject to anything of the kind (fifteenth night), 6.
- At intervals the skin of the abdomen felt stiff and stretched (fifth and sixth days), 7.
- Tingling in the legs, which disappeared after the second day, 2.
- Formication below the knees (after second dose, first day), 3.
- Itching in right temple, in evening (second day), 13.
- In the swell of the deltoid muscle on both arms, a burning itching, compelling to rub and scratch, which relieves for a short time (thirty-fifth day), 7.
SLEEP AND DREAMS
- Sleepiness.
- Yawning and stretching (third day), 9.
- Yawning and stretching all over (thirty-second day), 6.
- Sleepy, but easily aroused (after one hour); sleepy (after four hours), 1. [570.]
- Very sleepy at other times than the usual sleeping hours (after forty-three days), 5.
- During evening tried to compose music could not; for a sleepy feeling which pervaded the whole frame compelled the prover to retire at the unusually early hour of nine (second day), 4.

- Severe chill towards evening, causing great pain in and about the heart, going through into the back under the scapulæ; the pain is constrictive, the heart feels as if it were squeezed in a vice; the blood seems to have all gone to the heart, causing a feeling as though I must bend double; I can hardly walk straight going home; the heart fairly shakes with the cold, although the weather is mild (third day), 9.
- Chilliness over the face, followed by fever, congestion to the chest, and slight momentary spasmodic twitchings around the heart, during the forenoon (fifth day), 13. [600.]
- Cold chills in the back, particularly after going to bed at night, with hot flushes toward morning (twelfth day), 5a.
- Cold chills run over the face; chillier than in cold weather, with hot congested sensation in the chest (first day), 13.
- Creeping chills down the back, every night on going to bed, for a month (after two weeks), 8.
- Extremities cold and clammy (after 12 drops), 10.
- Cold feet and hands (forty-third day), 5.
- Cold hands and feet, and cold sweat on both most of the time, particularly so when having fluttering of the heart, 14.
- Cold hands and feet; perspiration, indeed, so profuse that they were constantly wet with cold, clammy sweat, 10.
- Everything in the least, exciting produces cold hands (fourth day), 10.
- Coldness of the outer side of the left leg, as though cold wind was blowing upon it, 2.
