IIL. Experiments on animals—t. The general action on the animal system, when introduced by subcutaneous injection, by injection into veins or alimentary canal, is paralysis of motion, convulsions, local or general, rapidly supervening drowsiness or indifference to external cir- Cumstances, congestion of alimentary m.m., discharge of sanguinolent fluid feces, presence of glairy uid mucus in intestines after death, certain changes in respiration and coincident fall of temperature, drowsiness and feebeness of pulse. Heart always irritable after death, uneasiness and sensibility to pain unimpaired, no diminution of muscular or nerve power to respond to stimulation, (PRIESTLEY, Proceedings of Royal Seciety, xxiv, 40.)
- The soluble ammonium ‘salt was used, mixed with food, or a 4} to 2 per cent. sol. injected subcutaneously in back.
‘2. Rabbits b, after injection of a large dose, an effect on liver was observable in the coarsely granular appearance of hepatic cells, thin indistinctness of outline, and the fading of nuclei or nucleoli.
4 Cats,—0'002 daily in’ food for 46 d. caused emaciation, hepatic cells indistinct, vacuolisation advanced. Same dose for same time in another caused lobules obliterated, cells marked, much vacuolated. 07025 injected in 24 h. caused liver pale, cells altered, granular, quite caseous. 0'028 injected in 6 h, caused well-marked changes, cells granular, much vacuolated,
c. Digs.—o'04 injected in 24 h. caused distinct changes, lobules obscure, cell granular, biliary pigment lost. o'0a4 injected “daily for 3 d. caused well-marked changes, no biliary pigment, lobules indistinct, ells granular and altered. (Downeswitt, Journ. of Physial., i, 257.)
