Asa foetida is not of frequent use in rheumatic conditions, yet we occasionally have a case in hysterical or scrofulous patients that presents a picture that reflects the remedy, especially if they have the deep burning, tearing, scraping pains as if in the bones, with the aggravations of all conditions at night.
Asa foetida is more often indicated in females.
NECK AND BACK
FINE BURNING STITCHES IN AND BEHIND RIGHT SCAPULA EXTENDING TOWARD THE RIBS.
(Drawing downward on left side of neck on motion.)
STITCHES IN MUSCLES OF THE BACK.
Dull pain below scapulæ.
BURNING PAIN ALONG THE VERTEBRÆ.
BORING STICKING PAIN IN LEFT GROIN FROM WITHIN OUT, > from inspiration.
Backache < from labour.
Stitches along sacrum to anus.
Pain in sacrum < while sitting.
SUPERIOR EXTREMITIES
Stitching in elbow joint.
QUIVERING IN SHOULDER JOINT AND DELTOID MUSCLE.
(Jerking sticking pain in upper arm.)
(Drawing pain in upper arms down to elbows, a fine stitch in elbow.)
Tearing in forearms down to tips of fingers.
Tearing stitch in forearm FOLLOWED BY BURNING.
SCRAPING SENSATION IN STYLOID PROCESS OF ULNA.
Pain as if beaten in joints of wrist.
Aching drawing in wrist joints.
CONVULSIVE MOVEMENTS OF ARMS AND HANDS WHEN ATTEMPTING MOTION.
INFERIOR EXTREMITIES
Swelling around ankle joints, cannot use foot.
Burning in roots of toe-nails preventing sleep.
Quivering in muscles of thigh.
CARIES OF BONES OF FEET WITH SWELLING.
STICKING SENSATION ON BALL OF GREAT TOE WHEN PUTTING FOOT TO GROUND.
PAIN AS IF A SPLINTER OF BONE WERE STICKING IN FIBULA JUST ABOVE OUTER MALLEOLUS.
SENSITIVE THROBBING IN LEFT GREAT TOE.
STITCHES IN LEFT GREAT TOE.
THROBBING IN TIP OF GREAT TOE.
EXTREMITIES IN GENERAL
CONVULSIVE MOVEMENTS OF ALL THE LIMBS.
PAINS MOSTLY ON FLEXOR SIDES OF LIMBS.
TEARING, BURNING WITH SCRAPING PAINS DEEP IN LIMBS AS IF IN BONES.
Pain on inside of joints.
AFFECTIONS MOSTLY ON LEFT SIDE.
CONCOMITANTS
FRETFUL; IRRITABLE MOOD.
SENSATION AS IF A BALL WERE RISING FROM STOMACH INTO THROAT.
HYSTERIA WITH GLOBUS HYSTERICUS.
SCROFULOUS CONSTITUTIONS.
CLUMSY CHILDREN.
FEVER BUT NO THIRST.
