Patricia Hatherly is an Australian homeopath and certified lactation consultant based in Brisbane, where she practises from the Amamusus Natural Therapies Centre. She holds the qualifications BA, DipEd, BHSc (Homoeopathy) and describes her professional role as Homoeopath, Lactation Consultant and Reiki Master. Certified as an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) in 1989, she combines more than 30 years of work as a classical homeopath with some 20 years of clinical experience as an internationally accredited lactation consultant, and has worked with mothers and babies for nearly 40 years.
Alongside her clinical practice, Hatherly has been active in homeopathic education, lecturing at homeopathic colleges in Brisbane and teaching at institutions including Southern Cross University and the Sydney College of Homoeopathic Medicine. She is a regular contributor to national and international homeopathy journals and a well-known speaker in Australia and overseas. For a decade she produced the e-Newsletter Milk Matters, sharing insights on lactation management and the Lac remedies with colleagues and students.
Hatherly is best known for bringing together the materia medica of the milk (Lac) remedies. She authored The Homoeopathic Physician's Guide to Lactation (2004) and The Lacs: A Materia Medica & Repertory (2010), the latter consolidating material on the milk remedies, including lesser-known and newer ones such as Lac llama glama, Lac macropi gigantei, Lac maternum, Lac oryctolagus cuniculus, Lac phoca vitulina and Lac suillinum. The book's table of contents lists 22 milk-remedy entries together with Sus and annotated proving diaries.
Her work is grounded in original research. She has conducted and published several provings, and in 2002 published the proving of Lac maternum; her clinical experience with Lac humanum allows her to differentiate the two remedies derived from human milk. This combination of proving methodology, lactation expertise and classical homeopathic practice has made her a recognised authority on the differentiation of milk remedies and on homeopathy in women's and maternal-infant health.
