Natural order , Rosaceæ.
Common names , Cherry Laurel; (Germ.) Kirschlorbeer.
Preparation , Tincture of the young leaves (provings by Jorg with Aqua laurocerasi, prepared from 1 pound of fresh leaves, 1 ounce of alcohol, 6 pounds of water; from which 3 pounds were obtained by distillation; symptoms from H. and T. from the Aqua lauro., and also from the freshly expressed juice of leaves).

- Heaviness in the vertex, especially on stooping, relieved on rising up (after half an hour), 14.
- A constant sensation in the vertex almost like a contraction, and heat (after one hour), 14.

- Drawing in the right side of the occiput deep internally (after a quarter of an hour), 14.
- Twinging pain in the occiput, with sleepiness, of short duration, and not violent (after half an hour), 13.
- A painful pressure on the left side of the occiput, extending to the neck, 37. [160.]
- Painful pressure from within outward beneath the left side of the occipital bone, with which nearly all his thoughts vanished, 37.

- Objective.

- Subjective.
- The eyes are dry; he feels increased warmth in them, 37.
- Dryness and burning in the eyes, in the evening, by the light, 14.
- The eyes burn, are dim and weak (sixth day), 14. [180.]
- Burning in the left external canthus (after three hours), 14.
- Burning and sticking in both eyes, especially in the right, and particularity in the inner canthus, for several evenings, 14.
- Transient burning in the right eye, at 4 P.M., 14.

- Itching in the left inner canthus, 14.
- Itching in the left inner canthus, which changes to pressure; in the inner canthus, vessels filled with blood extend branching like a tree towards the pupil, 37.
- Violent itching in the left eye (third afternoon), 14.
- Brow and Orbit.
- Violent aching around the eyes, especially the left, constantly increasing till the ninth day, 14.
- Drawing in the upper margin of both orbits, on exerting the eyes (after two hours), 14.
- Pressure towards the orbits from the head, and a feeling as though water would be pressed out of the eyes, followed during the day by increased lachrymation (after 14 drops), 12.
- Tearing in the left superciliary ridge; thence it extends into the teeth and right lower jaw (after five minutes), 14.
- Lids.
- The eyelids were tightly closed, the pupils very much dilated, and without any contractility, 16.
- Agglutination of the eyes, in the morning (second day), 14. [200.]
- Agglutination of the left eye, only transiently relieved by washing (eighth day), 14.
- Slight burning in the eyelids, 38.
- The eyelids cause a pressive pain in the eyes, as if they were too dry and he had not slept enough, 37.

- Vision.
- Obscuration of vision ; she did not see objects very distinctly (after a quarter of an hour), 14.*

- Remarkable illusion of vision; everything seems excessively large, with the greatest anxiety; for example, the chairs seem as though one could not get off of them; the flight of steps as though one could not go down them; but, as soon as the objects were touched, the illusion disappeared, and everything assumed its natural shape (coffee an antidote), 24.
- While awake, he fancies that he sees old men with long beards and distorted faces; and sparks of fire, 17.
EAR
- External.
- Boring in the right external concha (after two hours), 14.
- Drawing in the muscles behind the right ear, 38.
- Fine stitches in front of left ear (after half an hour), 14.
- Middle.

- Feeling of coldness as from ice near both wings of the nose, 37.

Sci., Second Series, vol. vi, p. 499), a child, aged about eight months, was given 1/2 teaspoonful of a potion of which cherry-laurel water was the principal constituent; 42 , Mr. Semple, Pharm. Journ., vol. ii, 1842-3, p. 31, Sir Theodosius Boughton, was poisoned; 43 , Dr. Hayn, Hufeland's Journ., 1843 (Woodman and Tidy's Forensic Medicine and toxicology, p. 423), fatal poisoning of an old man, by 1 1/2 ounces of cherry-laurel water; 44 , Med.
