Mercurius biniodatus cum kali iodatum

Edwin M. Hale著Materia Medica and Special Therapeutics of the New Remedies

Volume I — Appendix

(Double Iodide of Mercury and Potassium.)

Description. — It is a yellow salt, made by adding Potassium iodide to a hot concentrated solution of Mercuric iodide, and cooling. Long yellow crystals are deposited from the mother liquor. These crysials, when heated, first give off water, and then melt into a red liquid, from which some of the Mercuric iodide separates. It is soluble in alcohol and ether, but water decomposes it, separating about one-half the Mercuric iodide; then the liquid yields by evaporation a saline mass.

This salt is also readily made by boiling a solution of Potassium iodide with Mercuric oxide.

Preparations. — Triturations.

(No Provings.)

It causes profuse, watery mucous discharge from the throat, nose,

and deeper air- passages. 0 Influenza, with profuse, irritating discharges. 0 Secondary and tertiary syphilis.
