A beautiful tree growing in the bottom lands of the Ohio river. The tincture is to be made of the whole fruit ; the bark may differ. Symptoms mostly toxic ; provings commenced only by Hale.
MIND [1]
Confusion of mind, with vertigo, often followed by stupefaction and coma.
SENSORIUM [2]
Vertigo with staggering, reeling, unconsciousness.
Vertigo with full, heavy head, dim sight, thick speech, nausea and vomiting.
INNER HEAD [3]
Fulness and heaviness in head without pain, with vertigo and faintness towards evening.
(OBS :) According to the wry neck, the vertigo, sensation of fulness and heaviness of head, stupor, great weakness and trembling of limbs, it may be used in meningitis.
SIGHT AND EYES [5]
Sight dim or lost.
Eyes fixed and dead.
Eyes expressionless.
TASTE, SPEECH, TONGUE [11]
Speech thick and tongue as if lame.
HICCOUGH, BELCHING, NAUSEA AND VOMITING [16]
Nausea, with loathing of food and vomiting.
SCROBICULUM AND STOMACH [17]
Cramplike pain.
Sensation of fulness.
ABDOMEN AND LOINS [19]
Distension (with cattle).
STOOLS AND RECTUM [20]
Hard, knotty stools.
Constipation.
Very painful, dark purple hemorrhoidal tumors, with lame back and lower limbs.
It is popular to carry the fruit in the breeches-pocket, as a preventive of piles.
NECK AND BACK [31]
Wry neck (cattle).
Great lameness and weakness of back.
LOWER LIMBS [33]
Trembling of lower limbs.
Hind limbs lame ; falling (cattle).
A strong tendency to contraction of legs.
NERVES [36]
Spasms and convulsions, followed by lameness (cattle).
Great weakness.
SLEEP [37]
Stupor and confusion, followed by coma.
TIME [38]
Towards evening : vertigo and faintness.
FEVER [40]
Some typhoid symptoms.
SENSATIONS [43]
Pain : in hemorrhoids.
Cramplike pain : in stomach.
Fulness and heaviness : in head ; in stomach.
