On the slightest exertion, painful weakness of the muscles used, even when writing or standing (fourth day), 4a.

Great prostration, with frequent and weak pulse, in the evening (after several hours), 16.

SKIN

Several small pimples on the wrist and back of the right hand (second day), disappearing after a few days), 5.
Two badly looking, hard though not painful pimples on the middle of the right cheek, slowly disappearing, 5.

Ulceration, smarting, and tension in the right corner of the mouth, in the morning (fourth day), 5.
Subjective.
Prickling on the back of the left hand (second day), 4a.
Crawling in the skin of both lower legs and feet (tenth day), 4a.

Itching and slight tension around the mouth, better after rubbing (after two hours), 5.

SLEEP AND DREAMS

Sleepiness.
Much yawning, with nausea, accumulation of saliva and many eructations (tenth day), 4a.

Drowsiness very marked, many of the patients falling asleep in the cabs on their way to the hospital, and many dropping off to sleep repeatedly in the waiting-room, but they could all be immediately aroused, 31.

Journ., 2d Ser., vol. vii, p. 554, a young Hindoo swallowed three or four fresh seeds of "Curcas multifidus;" 35 , Dr. Marrett, Madras Med. Journ., 1861, p. 37 (Pharm. Journ., 2d Ser., vol. vii, p. 553), a person swallowed fifteen to twenty seeds.

Within an hour and a half after ingestion, burning sensations in the throat and stomach commenced, followed by profuse purging, vomiting, violent cramps of the extremities, which subsequently extended to the muscles of the abdomen and back, and occasional twitchings of those of the back, almost like those observed in tetanus. This was followed by deafness, and although the patient seemed all the time to be quite sensible, he failed on recovery, which occurred after two days of intense suffering, to recall any of the events of his illness subsequent to the occurrence of the purging, which was one of the earliest symptoms, 35.
Violent purging and vomiting, intense heat and pain in the stomach, with great prostration of the vital powers, were the principal symptoms, 34.
In Cuba, it is said that placing the hands in cold water will cause the effects to cease, 33.
