CALCAREA PHOSPHORICA.

A mixture of the basic and other phosphates of lime, prepared by dropping dilute phosphoric acid into lime-water, as long as a white precipitate is formed; this precipitate is collected and triturated. (Hering, in Correspondenzblatt, 1837).

MIND
- Emotional.
- Easily excited (from the 2d), 1.

- A child of fifteen months, with a big head and open fontanels, took from a trituration of a drachm, C. ph., with half an ounce of milk-sugar, half a teaspoonful, in the evening. Soon violent screaming, grasping with hands in great with hands in great agony, towards his mother; cold sweat, most in face; whole body cold; lasted nearly two hours; next day, as well as usual; 6 P.M., another spell, lasting only fifteen minutes. - General Head.

- Headache, in the morning, on waking, a heavy painful confusion, as if close to the bone, from within and without, worse on the vertex; aggravated by bodily exertion; it seems to disappear on mental exertion, and return on bodily exertion; relieved by washing with cold water (from the 2d), 1.
- Headache like a fulness, a painful pressure of the brain against the skull, most severe on the top of the head; it returns regularly almost every ten seconds; at last it becomes continuous, but is still more severe every ten seconds; aggravated on motion, especially on stooping, even on changing the position while sitting; especially one sitting up after lying down, also on rising after sitting, when it is accompanied by vertigo; better while lying still, and after stooping (from the 2d), .
EYE
- Eyes red; capillary vessels visible in streaks from corners to cornea, 5.
- As if something came into his eyes; renewed if others talk about it, 5.
- Sensation in the eye, as if something were in it ; he always feels it anew, if even after several days it is only mentioned (from the 2d), 1.
- (For several days there is a frequent sensation as if something were in the left eye; it seems to move about in the eye, but is mostly felt towards the inner canthus and also in the upper part of the ball; nothing can be seen, and it often disappears after a short time; it is very troublesome and annoying; in the morning there is matter in the inner canthus; afterwards, there is some swelling and redness in the upper part of the inner canthus), (from the 2d), 1. - Sticking-pressive pain in the left eye, extending to the upper orbital border, in the mornings, on waking (nineteenth day), 6.

EAR
- Objective.
- Inner and outer ear swollen; red, sore, itching, 5.
- Excoriating discharge from ears, 5.
- Subjective.
- Burning pain in a small spot over the right ear, highly sensitive to the slightest touch, 5.
- A severe, violent, burning pain in a small spot above the right ear (when scratching the head on account of itching); it is exceedingly sensitive to the slightest touch; after a time it suddenly disappears (crude), 1.
- Aching, pressing, tearing, rending, in and around the ears, most behind or below, 5.
- All the bones behind and around the ears ache and hurt, shooting outwards, 5.
- Pressive pain in the cartilage of the left ear, as if it were being squeezed together with the fingers (eleventh day), 6.
- Cold feeling in the ears, coldness followed by throbbing, by heat, with hard hearing; outer ears cold; cold and aching, or hot and aching, 5.

- Earaches, tearing, shuttering, jerking pain, in alternations, or with other rheumatic complaints, 5.
- Soreness in ears and around, 5.
- Hearing.
- Difficult hearing, with all other ear symptoms, 5.

NOSE
- Objective.
- Point of nose icy cold, 5.
- A small, very painful ulcer forms on the right side of the septum of the nose; he cannot well blow his nose, on account of a sore pain in it; opens the second day, but does not heal till the fifth day (twenty-third day), 6.
- Dry yellow mucus in the nose, which must be removed with the fingers (fourth day), 6.
- Frequent sneezing (seventh day), 6.
- Very frequent sneezing during the whole time (eleventh day), 6.
- Frequent violent sneezing, with running from the nose, with nasal mucus and flow of saliva (from the 2d), 1. [110.]
- Sudden sneezing, and soreness on the margins of wings of nose; fluent coryza during the afternoon, 5.
- Interrupted sneezing, afterwards sneezing with coryza (fifth day), 6.
- In the evening, three or four times, sudden sneezing, followed by sensation of soreness in the nostrils, with relief of the headache (crude), 1.

FACE
- Face pale, sallow, yellowish, earthen, 5.

MOUTH
- Teeth.

- In an upper hollow root on the right side, sensation as if something had got into it that she strives to remove. The loose root is sensitively painful when touched, yet he has a desire to touch it; every minute renews the pain (twenty-first day), 6.
- Raging toothache in an upper root, left, extending into the upper jaw (fifth day), 6.
- Sensitiveness in an upper hollow root, right, with desire to suck it with the tongue, which increases the pain, 6.
- Sensation as if something were sticking into the lower incisors; it feels like a small painful swelling of the gum (crude), 1.
- Dull drawing stitches in a hollow upper back tooth, left side, afternoon (third day), 6.

- Tongue.
- Tongue white, furred on the root; most in the morning, 5.
- Mornings, a whitish coated tongue, with furrows on it, as if split; insipid sweetish taste after the ice cream of the day before (seventh day), 6.
- When swallowing, pain in tongue, fauces, pharynx, chest, and pit of stomach, 5.

- General Mouth.
- Dryness of mouth and tongue, into choanæ, with salivation, with or without thirst, 5.

THROAT

- Appetite and Thirst.

- Nausea, rising from the pit of the stomach, when moving; better at rest; followed by headache and lassitude, 5.
- Nausea lasting two hours, with vertigo and headache, worse when stooping; dull confusion of the head, with confusion of the thoughts, 4.
- Nausea from smoking or after drinking coffee, 5.
- Nausea when smoking as usual, inclination to vomit; tobacco itself does not taste right for several days (fifth day), .
ABDOMEN
- Hypochondria.
- Throbbing in right hypochondrium; lessened after belching or passing wind, 5.
- Sticking in the region of the liver during a long inspiration as if from flatus (twelfth day), 6.
- Stitches or shooting in region of liver, when taking a deep breath, 5.
- Sharp pain in region of spleen, 5.
- Umbilical.
- Emptiness or sinking around navel or in whole belly, 5.
- Complaint like in the first period of pregnancy; a drawing aching in region of navel, extending to the sacral region; worse in the forenoon, 5.
- Cutting pain in the abdomen around the navel, a kind of wind colic, and eructations of some herb that he had eaten at dinner; after drinking cold water, the pains are violently renewed, evening (fifth day), 6. [230.]
- Two hours after eating ice cream in the evening, colic-like pains about the navel (sixth day), 6.
- Aching soreness and pain around navel ; lessens after fetid wind passes off, 5.
- General Abdomen.
- Much flatulence and rumbling in the abdomen, with some pain, after two doses of the 1st; the same, also much more severe, after a third dose, together with confusion of the head, which soon increased to a dull pain, which was always more sensitive on stooping; this continued more or less severe the whole day, until a thin evacuation followed, preceded by sensitive pain; quite well the next day, 3.
- Meteorismus, and pain in the abdomen, followed by stool and immediate relief of the symptoms (from the 2d), 3.
- Wind passes off, with a stench, 5.*
- Difficult passage of flatus, followed by slight relief (from the 2d), 1.
- Motion in abdomen as if something alive, 5.

RECTUM AND ANUS
- Sore aching in anus when getting up in the morning, 5.
- After supper pressure in rectum, with a stool; the first hard the last thin, 5.
- Stitches in the rectum, evenings (eighth day), 6.
- Single stitches in rectum towards the anus, or shooting in anus, 5. [260.]
- Itching in the rectum (eleventh day), 6.

- Itching, tickling, prickling in the rectum, with a desire to draw it in very much, without having had a stool all day, evening, in bed (fifteenth day), 5.

- Warmth, burning, pulsating in anus; bearing down towards anus, 5.

STOOL

- Very offensive diarrhœa (from the 4th), 2.*

- Three stools with excessive protrusion of hæmorrhoids that are sensitively sore and throbbing. After the third evacuation tenesmus and urgency as if more were to pass; no stool the two following days (fourteenth day), 6.

URINARY ORGANS
- Kidneys and Bladder.
- Pain in the region of the kidneys, when lifting, digging, blowing the nose, frequently so violent as to cause crying out (from the 4th), 2.
- In region of kidneys, violent pain when lifting and when blowing the nose . Pain in back, jerking, rending, cutting, shooting, 5.
- Violent pain in bladder, and all neighboring parts, 5.
- Sore aching in bladder, worse after micturition, 6.
- A painful sensation in the neck of the bladder, like that when having the stream suddenly stopped, 5. [300.]
- While urinating, drawing in bladder upwards (female); burning in urethra, hardness (male), 5.
- Frequent pressure in the bladder; he is often compelled to pass a little clear, pale urine (fourteenth day), 6.
- Pressing pain, most on right side of bladder, 5.
- Before urinating, cutting in bladder, pressing down, cutting in urethra, 5.

- Urethra.
- Orifice of the urethra somewhat inflamed and agglutinated. A quantity of urine spurts out after urinating (fourth day), 6.

- Cutting-drawing pains in the glans, extending towards the tip, only while sitting; not very severe, but an exceedingly unpleasant sensation (from the 2d), 1.

- Towards morning, special desire for coitus; together with very unusual orgasm; after rising, general well feeling, and appetite, which he did not usually have in the morning, and though there was some headache left over from the previous day, still there was more desire for work (crude), 1.

RESPIRATORY ORGANS
- Larynx.
- He has to hawk or to hem if he wants to talk clear, 5.
- Burning in larynx, after the same feeling on back part of tongue, 5.
- Voice.
- Hoarseness and cough, day and night, 5.
- Evenings, husky and hoarse, with inclination to vomit; is obliged to hawk in order to speak distinctly (twelfth day), 6.
- Husky voice; mucus in the throat prevents him from speaking distinctly; is obliged to hawk whenever he wants to speak, in the evening (eleventh day), 6.
- Cough.
- Cough in the sunny half of the day, 6 A.M. to 6 P.M., 5. [360.]
- Tickling cough and lachrymation of the left eye (fifth day), 6.
- Dry cough, with hoarseness and soreness, and dryness in the throat, 5.
- Respiration.
- Involuntary sighing, 5.

- Soon after taking it she felt weak and prostrated, with flushes of heat in the head, nervous weakness; three hours afterwards she was attacked by severe pain in the right knee, on account of which she could scarcely walk; she felt as though she had received a blow on the inner side of the knee, which caused at the same time a violent pain and sensation of soreness, which lasted two days; the second dose taken some days afterwards had the same effect, aggravated by bending the knee; her twelve-year old daughter had the same symptoms from the same dose, only more severe; she had together with weakness, severe headache, pain and sensation of soreness of the thigh, which after a time extended into the left knee and there lasted twenty-four hours; after the disappearance of the pain the knee still remained sensitive to touch, as if beaten; her ten-year old son was also affected by a violent pain in the left knee, extending to the sole of the foot; her infant, who had just began to stand, would not stand any longer, and it was plainly to be seen that he had been affected by the paralyzing power of the drug through his mother's milk (from the 4th), .

URINARY ORGANS
- Frequent profuse discharge of clear urine from 12 M. to 9 P.M. (fifth day), 7.
- The urine has continued profuse, frequent, and watery, since the fifth day; but no unusual thirst (ninth day), 7. [710.]
- Frequent and urgent desire to urinate, in the forenoon. The water pretty clear, and the aggregate quantity large. From 12 M., till 5 P.M., no opportunity to pass water. By 2 P.M., the desire was urgent, and the pain in the bladder considerable; the pain kept increasing from 2 to 5, at which time it was very severe in the bladder above the pubis, and in the prostate gland and neck of bladder. The water passed in a feeble stream, occupying considerable time. After all had passed, considerable soreness of the bladder, followed by frequent micturition. Though the urine had often been retained much longer without difficulty, it was evident that this group of troubles of the bladder arose from overdistension, and that the medicine affected the bladder only through the increased secretion of urine (fourteenth day), 7.
SEXUAL ORGANS
- Diminution of the sexual desire since the commencement of this proving (tenth day), 7.
- Diminution of the aphrodisiac sense still continues, and the whole function seems so weak as to be well-nigh removed, and has been since the second day of the proving. The excitement reaches a low pitch, at which it culminates from a slight cause, assimilating impotency (sixteenth day), 7.
RESPIRATORY ORGANS
- Dry hacking cough of a few minutes duration, at 3 P.M. (seventh day), 7.
- Hacking cough and fluent coryza with the chill (tenth day), 7.
- Involuntary sighing at times, for the last three days (eleventh day), 7.
- Inclination to sigh continues, and is still marked; I find myself making frequent involuntary inspirations; this has been for a number of days (sixteenth day), 7.
CHEST
- Dull pain in a small spot in right chest, near mammary gland, at 5 P.M., lasting half an hour (seventh day), 7.
- Considerable pain in right chest when pressed upon; some, but less in the left chest (ninth day), 7.
- A sharp pain about the sixth rib of the right chest, a little to the right of the mamma, worse on inspiration, lasting ten minutes; 5 P.M., a like pain at a corresponding part of the left chest (ninth day), 7. [720.]
- The pains above described in the chest felt very often through the day (tenth day), 7.
- Sharp pain for a short time in the region of the heart (8 P.M.), (tenth day), 7.
- The sharp pain in the left chest, about the seventh rib, and to the left of the mamma, followed by a dull pain, felt more when inspiring deeply, and this still continues (8 P.M.), (tenth day), 7.
- Pain in the region of the heart, violent at times (eleventh day), 7.
- Sharp pain in the region of the heart, when making an inspiration; most marked when taking a deep inspiration (eleventh day), 7.
- Sharp pain between the fourth and fifth ribs of the left chest, a little to the left of the heart, occurring frequently during the forenoon; so sharp and severe as to cut off the breath at times. The sharp pain would last ten or fifteen minutes, leaving a soreness for a longer a shorter time, and then come on again. The pain in the left chest has been troublesome through the afternoon; felt most during a deep inspiration, though not all the time present. Sharp pain in the right chest by turns during the same time (eleventh day), 7.
- Pain in the chest trouble some, though not constant through the day (thirteenth day), 7.
- The pains and soreness still felt about the chest, though not as constantly as several days ago (fourteenth day), 7.
- A sharp pain as though some round sharp instrument was pushing out the lower end of the sternum, for a short time, at about 12 M. (sixteenth day), 7.
- Pains in the chest still troublesome, passing from place to place; it is felt in the central part of the left chest in front, and passed thence under the left scapula, but is of a less acute character, but more and more aching. Pains still aggravated by a deep inspiration (sixteenth day), 7. [730.]
- Before rising in morning, sudden sharp cuttings or stitches in region of heart, continuing about five minutes, and then going off. Slight pain of the same nature, preventing a full breath, occasionally during the day (eighth day), .
NECK AND BACK
- Crampy pain in nape of the neck, first on one side and then on the other, lasting for a short time (thirteenth day), 7.
- Sharp pain under the left scapula, towards the spine, at 9 A.M., continuing ten minutes, followed by dull pain in the shoulder-joint (second day), 7.
- Pain, with soreness, under the left scapula (thirteenth day), 7.
- The latter part of the night, and in the morning, dull, or pain as if from a bruise, on each side of dorsal spine (fifth day), 7.
- Pain on each side of dorsal and lumbar spine, as from a bruise, when awakening, on the following morning, disappeared after exercise (eighth day), 7.
- The soreness of the muscles of the back continues on getting up in the morning (tenth day), 7.
- Sharp pain in region of lumbar vertebræ, and top of sacrum, lasting a short time, followed by soreness (eleventh day), 7.
EXTREMITIES
- During forenoon, pain in all the limbs, worse in gastrocnemii, as from a cold (second day), 9.
SUPERIOR EXTREMITIES
- Aching in the right arm, in the left temple, and shoulder-joint, lasting for a short time (second day), 7. [740.]
- Dull pain in the left arm below the elbow and wrist (ninth day), 7.
- At 11.30 A.M., pain in the right arm, from the elbow to the hand, with lameness of the wrist, all lasting till 9 P.M. (tenth day), 7.
- Pain in the right wrist, with lameness as if bruised, at 7 A.M., lasting half an hour (third day), 7.
- Tremulous motion of the hands (eighth day), 7.
- Aching in pulp of left forefinger, sometimes extending up the arm, and giving it a sensation of weakness (continually all day), (eleventh day), 9.
- Pain in left forefinger to-day, as yesterday; felt more when driving (twelfth day), 9.
INFERIOR EXTREMITIES
- Severe lame or bruised feeling in both nates (tenth day), 9.
- Pain in nates better (eleventh day), 9.
- Biting stinging in small spot on left nates (second day), 9.

- Sharp pain in the tendons of the inner hamstrings, when walking, lasting twenty minutes, at 6 P.M. (ninth day), 7.
- Aching in outer side of right knee in bed, soon followed by aching in ball of left foot, relieved by motion, lasting about ten minutes (ninth day), 9.
- Drawing pains is gastrocnemii (third day), 9.
- Slight jerking pain in the right knee-joint, 8.
- Weakness of legs, especially below knees, as if from severe labor (second day), 7.
- Dull pain in the legs, from the knees to the feet, continuing for one-half hour (after one hour and a half, second day), 7.
- From 8 to 8.30 P.M., severe pain in front of right ankle, followed by a soreness about the sheaths of the tendons, most on extending and flexing the foot (second day), 7.
- Violent pain in the right toes and foot to the instep, lasting half an hour (fifteenth day), 7.
GENERALITIES
- Feeling of languor and laziness in the evening, and aversion to mental labor (thirteenth day), 7.
- Took the last medicine on Friday, and the symptoms were at their height on the following Sunday, and continued with a gradual abatement till the last of the week, 8.

- (There is as small white ulcer upon a spot in right cheek which had been irritated by a broken tooth. Am uncertain if medicine had anything to do with it), (tenth day), 9.
- Burning itching of the outer ear, in the evening, lasting half an hour (fifteenth day), 7.
- Burning itching of the outer ears when in a warm room, after riding in the open air (which was not cold), and on putting the hand to the ears, was surprised to find they were not hot, though they were red. This burning has been troublesome all day when indoors (sixteenth day), 7.
- Itching of the left cheek, nose, and chin (second day), 7.
- A smart itching vesicle on the left wrist, at 6 P.M. (second day), 7.
- Violent itching of left wrist, with burning after scratching, at 9 P.M. (fifth day), 7.
- Severe biting itching in outer border of left axilla, momentarily relieved by scratching (ninth day), 9.
SLEEP
- Sleepiness all day, with yellowness of complexion and sclerotica (ninth day), 9.
